hi,
i was wondering if someone could help me with my slow broadband.
i have noticed that my broadband has been quite slow for about the last couple of weeks. i used to get just under 8mb connection speed but it is currently working at around 1-1.5mb. i have tried rebooting the router a couple of times and left it for a few days to see if it has made a diffence but it hasnt.
i have run a speed test using the bt speedtester and the results are as follows
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1186 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2000 Kbps
the line stats from my router are
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.0 db 20.5 db
Noise Margin 4.9 db 20.0 db
any help would be much appreciated.
thanks

Have you tried stepping through the Broadband Troubleshooter ?
That should advise what steps you should take to resolve your issue.

Based on the timescales you mentioned I would have expected the value marked in red to have increased to 7150kbps by now. It needs to do that to restore the speeds you previously experienced. So potentially it looks like the value could be stuck.
The faults team could resolve this if you raise a low speed fault at http://faults.plus.net/. Have you any ideas on what might have caused that profile to drop in the first place (at the time you first noticed the lower speeds)?

thanks for the replies.
i dont know for certain if its been stuck at the slower speed for 2 weeks. i just thought it seemed slow.
its only come about as i set some downloads going overnight and they took a lot longer to finish downloading than i expected.
the only thing that i can think of that might have caused it is we have had several power cuts recently. could that be the cause?
thanks

Quite possibly, where I live we get maybe five power cuts every week, and that on occasions that seemed to ruin my otherwise excellent sync rate.
I have had to resort to connecting the router's power supply to a battery backed UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) so that can hold mains voltage for more than an hour - and my sync problems have not reoccurred.

Hi Langer,
That seems to have gone back up this morning. Is it all ok at your end now?

hi Jo,
just got back from work and my internet wasn't working. have since rebooted the router and its back up.
i have run another speedtest and the results are below.
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1317 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps
looks like my ip profile has gone back up but my downstream is still slow.
thanks

Hi Langer,
I've just ran some diagnostics and everything checks out. We'll just have to see what the faults team come up with.
