My broadband router is a Technicolor TG582n and I have bought a BT Home Hub 2 router to attach to my printer and set up wirelessly.
I have gone through the setup but the only way I can get the printer to work is if I disconnect my Technicolor TG582n (which isn’t ideal as we then lose internet connection).
I have noticed that both routers have the same IP Address. I changed the BT IP address and went through the setup again but no joy…can anyone please help?

Plug it into the other routers lan socket to one of the lan sockets on the HH2
Disable the dhcp/dns etc via the cli - you need the unlocked f/w for this.
the shared printer will be on 192.168.1.253
I use a HH2 as a VOIP gateway with no real problems, so it is possible.
Although a usb->wireless adaptor might be easier

Many thanks for your quick reply
Quote from: Hairy OK on the HH2 change it to 192.168.1.250
Done
Quote from: Hairy Disable the dhcp/dns etc via the cli - you need the unlocked f/w for this.
Did this at the same time as changing the IP address...hope this is ok

Excuse my lack of knowledge but will the HH2 run apart from the TG582n (wirelessly)?

Do I need to change any configuration for this IP address or will it set itself automatically?

This type of connection is called WDS --
The TG582n will do this but not very well:

I don't know if the home hub 2 supports this.
Assuming the printer has a ethernet socket, you would be better running a ethernet cable from TG582n to printer and forgetting the home hub. If it's a difficult cable run, then use a pair of homeplugs.
A pair rated at 200mbps will be fine for a printer.

Quote running a ethernet cable from TG582n to printer
I've owned Canon printers & they all have a tendency to drop the wireless from time to time. As suggested above I've connected my printer to my Asus router by ethernet cable..............problem solved.

I have used a usb->lan adaptor on my Canon IP4500 before, with a cable to the router. BUT you loose a lot of functionality like ink levels etc.
The usb->lan adaptor I have has a M$ app to restore this by adding a virtual usb port but I don't use M$ and the don't support Linux

I would like to access my printer from my laptop from anywhere in my house and I came across this YouTube video which makes the process look ridiculously easy so I invested a fiver in a BT HH2 but I was unsuccessful.

Various other possible solutions as I see it:
One solution would be to buy a new (wireless) printer but I have this old Canon Pixma MP780 with about £100 worth of inks so I would prefer to use up these inks before buying a new one.
Run ethernet cable to from the router the printer (possibly via homeplugs)
Unfortunately the printer doesn’t have an ethernet port.
Run USB cable from the router to the printer
The Technicolor router and the printer are in different rooms

OK just watched the vid. He doesn't appear to have any other routers connected, only the HH2. You want it to connect to an existing network,
Something like this is what you need.

Your comment about their not being another router connected makes sense...the only time I got the HH2 to work was when I disconnected the Technicolor router.
I have managed to send the poster of the video a message so I'll wait a little while to see if he comes back to me.
Thanks again for your help
