Heavy Data Usage

Only three weeks into my new broadband contract and I'm already up to 61.63gb!

Firslty, I'm worried they'll cut me off,is that the case?

Secondly,I've changed the password on my router in case I've been hacked somehow, although my router was showing as secured.

I am using my old BT Hub 4 instead of the supplied Plusnet router, could that have any effect?

All comments/advice welcome.

Re: Heavy Data Usage

@addyeddy - What contract are you on? Fibre / ADSL?

Re: Heavy Data Usage

regarding usage - that isn't a problem - I am presently running at about 150GB per month and I am a relatively low user

I'm currently on 550GB and haven't been home since last FridayWink

I am also on ADSL.

If you are on an unlimited product then I certainly wouldn't worry about your usuage.

Mav - How do you use THAT much?Crazy2 . I don't think I've used half that in 12 months, but there's only me and I don't stream/game &c - I only use the laptop or iPad for information/help.

Re: Heavy Data Usage

I watch/download lots of stuff in HD and UHD. Not easy to do when average speed is around 500MBps.

There's been a few who have posted that they use well over 1TB a month. It;s a bit like memory, the more you have the more you use it and the more you needWink

Re: Heavy Data Usage

That explains itSmiley. I'm the exact opposite - watch very little and what I do watch is in SD on a non-smart TV. Can never find much I want to watch and have a short attention span. Even watching a football/rugby match usually means setting it to record and watching it in two distinct halves.

Re: Heavy Data Usage

Thanks to all for your replies,I feel less worried now than I did! I guess it's watching streaming films in 1080p that does it.

Re: Heavy Data Usage

Yeah as the others have mentioned there is nothing to worry about regarding this. If you are streaming films or programmes on Netflix, Youtube and other platforms like this in HD you will find the usage to be higher but because you are on an unlimited usage package there is nothing to worry about.
