Hi there, we've been with plusnet for a while now and its had its ups and downs but currently we are having a situation with the maxed out speed, the whole time we have been with plusnet we have been using the up to 8 meg package, which was fine, but recently we have noticed a severe drop in speeds.
I decided to do a speed test ( The bt one provided seemed to not respond at all after several tries, used http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ instead) and ended up with 1629kbps Down and 133kbps up, which turns out to be 1.5 meg and i also checked the BT Wholesale which has set our limit up at 2meg, i know that this isn't right because we have had upto 5000+kbps on previous speed tests over the years.
I believe the issue lies where we had frequent disconnects due to work around the house interfering with the phone line, I'm wondering if its possible if someone from plus.net could look into this for us because its a bit pointless paying for the up to 8 when we could just pay for the 2meg instead.

Can you give us the connection statistics from your router/modem? If you don't know how, tell us the model and someone will know. If the problem was due to temporary interference then your speed should go back up automatically over the next few days.
You are effectively paying for the amount you can download, not the speed, so changing to a fixed rate service won't save you any money.

It looks like there's some form of fault on your line.
I'd try changing your filters, connecting to the test socket behind your master faceplate if possible and better still try using a different modem or router.
It's either a line fault or a problem with your hardware.

ok, i plugged it in and it seems to have gone up in speed, looks like there is a problem with the cable upstairs
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6304 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 19.0 db 8.0 db
Noise Margin 15.3 db 24.0 db
I did another speed test and im still hitting around 1500kbps up and 300kbps down, should i expect this to go up after some time or will someone need to look at it?

Hi Gary,
Your IP Profile will rise in the next 3-5 days.
You're right though, it sounds like a dodgy cable.
