Yep its gone down the crapper AGAIN..... At this rate everyone will spend all night long gateway hopping and get nothing done!!!!

Just noticed you're not authenticated on our traffic management platform correctly (at the time of writing you're assigned an 'Extra' profile). It wouldn't cause the problems above but it might be an idea to disconnect/reconnect when you get the opportunity again just so your profile's correctly assigned.

You were originally on Collindale. You're now connected to Stepney though rather than Faraday.

@bifkinuk, can you disconnect/reconnect now and let me know if the situation's any better on another gateway?

I did a quick speedtest just before disconnecting and got this result (still on ptn-ag01):

After reconnecting and joining ptn-ag02:

So the evening's problems had more or less cleared without having to reboot?

Well without staying up all night, I couldn't tell you but right at this point in time, my speeds are good. The issues appeared to subside by themselves later on in the evening without rebooting but will no doubt reappear tomorrow at the same time (without trying to sound too negative).
P.S "the evening's problems" were actually carried out on 26 Feb. This was this evening's results

Re: Having Latency/speed problems tonight? - 5th March

OK thanks for the clarification.
Right, going to call it a night now folks. Thanks once more for all your help. We've managed to grab a fair bit of data although at a glance it's not looking overly conclusive I'm afraid.
I've asked the mods to lock this thread so if you need to continue any discussion then I'd suggest using the original thread.

And an even wilder stab in the dark... I wonder if it's related to the type of traffic that the users are predominantly generating. It seems like a lot of complaints are from gamers. Maybe the latency-sensitive nature of gaming just makes them more likely to complain about the issue. Streaming seems to be the other regular theme in complaints (and was the trigger for me to gateway hop). Again, streaming is delay sensitive so an activity that will cause the user to notice the problem. So maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but just wondered if it could be a "trigger".
A bit depressing that Bob hasn't seen any pattern in the data  Sad  Anyway, go ahead and shoot me down  Grin

OK, I'll try!  Wink I've had a Samknows whitebox since the weekend and I've been away this week so there will be very little traffic on my link. Looking at the logs my connection is rock solid at about 52Mb until about 8pm when it drops to 15-20Mb and bottoms around 9pm at 10Mb. By 10pm it's back up to 25Mb and by 11pm it's back to normal.
That's all without any action from me and no gateway hopping obviously. It will be interesting to see what a full week's logs look like,

If it gives any hope, mine hasn't dropped speed at all tonight (ptw-ag03) for the first time in over a week.  Latency still looking steady too.
Streaming currently no problem here.

Yes, that's interesting, but I don't think it invalidates my wild theory! The slow down only manifests itself during the evening peak period, when whichever nodes are causing it are under maximum load. Something seems to trigger particular customer connections to suffer from this - maybe something to do with the routing of their traffic through specific nodes, maybe something to do with the (dynamic) network parameters that define how their traffic is handled. If your connection had already been "triggered" into this state then your connection would slow down during every evening peak and speed up after it had passed - exactly what you have seen. That continues until you disconnect and reconnect, when the trigger condition is (usually but not always) reset.
Since Bob can't see any pattern in the way traffic is routed, I'm thinking this is pointing more at the way traffic is managed...  Huh
BTW, this thread doesn't seem to have been locked!!
