Have you replaced your 582n modem / router?

Good morning. I would like to hear from people that have replaced their 582n with something else. I'm interested in finding out whether the router was faulty or simply didn't meet your expectations.
Would be good to know:
1) Fibre or ADSL 20CN or 21CN?

2) Had you already had a replacement 582n from us

3) Why you replaced it

4) What you replaced it with

5) Do you still have the 582n

6) Would you be willing to send it back to us (we would supply the bag and pay the postage)

Thanks very much for your help,
Graham Turnbull

1) Fibre or ADSL?

Fibre - FTTP Trial (100Mb/15Mb)

2) Had you already had a replacement 582n from us

Nope, still got the original router.

3) Why you replaced it

Wanted a future proof (or as close to that) router with lots of features and strong WiFi performance.

4) What you replaced it with

Asus N66U

5) Do you still have the 582n

Yep, sitting a few metres from me.

6) Would you be willing to send it back to us (we would supply the bag and pay the postage)

I keep meaning to compare the WiFi performance of a few routers (582n/Sky Sagem/Asus N66u) with iPerf. Once I get around to it, am happy to return the 582n which has been unused (still have the original boxing etc.)

Hi AndyH
Thanks very much for your response. That's exactly what I was looking for. I would be interested in seeing the results of any testing you do.
Cheers,

1) Fibre or ADSL?

Fibre Unlimited 42 down 15 up
Quote
2) Had you already had a replacement 582n from us

Yes. I have my original ASDN router & the replacment fibre one you sent me. I returned the first fibre router for testing of its poor wireless speed.
Quote
3) Why you replaced it

Very slow download wirelessly. The speed was halved one floor down in a modern house.
Quote
4) What you replaced it with

Asus RT-N56U. No wireless speed loss  & the dual band capability is extremely useful.
Quote
5) Do you still have the 582n

Yes, both of them
Quote
6) Would you be willing to send it back to us (we would supply the bag and pay the postage)

Yes, I will happily return them to allow PN to assess what I consider to be a poor quality router.

ADSL

No
3) Why you replaced it
Have existing kit which I consider to be superior to your offering (especially wireless)
4) What you replaced it with
Draytek 2920 Dual WAN router with a Draytek 120+ modem (also have virgin cable)

5) Do you still have the 582n
Yes
6) Would you be willing to send it back to us (we would supply the bag and pay the postage)
No would prefer to retain it so that in event of any problems with my connection I can bring it online to rule out my router being considered suspect (exactly same scenario with my sister currently where I have reverted to standard 582n from a Draytek 2130n plus Draytek 120+ modem setup whilst troubleshooting a connection problem because almost the first thing support pointed their fingers at was her Draytek router which is not the issue)
Thanks very much for your help,

Fibre 80/20
Quote
2) Had you already had a replacement 582n from us

I've got the original that was supplied when I joined in Jan
Quote
3) Why you replaced it

Spent 5 minutes trawling through the interfaces after getting Fibre installed then realised it was either going back in the box or out of the window ......
Quote
4) What you replaced it with

I have a Netgear DGFV338 Prosafe router but that gave me slowish download speeds even through ethernet so swapped that for a TP-Link TL-WR841N that I had ordered a couple of days before because it was cheap (£18 delivered for a 300Mbp router plus dongle !)
Quote
5) Do you still have the 582n

Yes - it's in the attic with other "archived" hardware
Quote
6) Would you be willing to send it back to us (we would supply the bag and pay the postage)

No - I paid the postage to get it here so I'm keeping it. Also handy as an emergency backup router.

Re: Have you replaced your 582n modem / router?

Hi, thanks to everyone who has responded so far. Much appreciated.
Just to be clear. If we ask you to send your router back for us to look at, we can send you another one at our expense (including the P&P).
We really want to be able to investigate these complaints!

Re: Have you replaced your 582n modem / router?

I've gone the other way around. I've replace my tp link w8969 with the 582n.
The TP Link started to randomly disconnect especially after long usage.
The 582n hasn't had any problems so far. I'm on ADSL.

Re: Have you replaced your 582n modem / router?

Without taking this thread too off-topic....
With BT trialling self-managed installs for FTTC (and the ability for CPs to provide their own VDSL modem/routers), do PN plan to replace the 582n with an integrated VDSL modem/router?
I think the biggest criticism of the 582n is its wireless performance and this is something most users on here would put at the top of their priority for a router.
