Re: Have spam filters been trained over XMAS?

I assume the spam training is being run again now that the holidays are over.
The only stuff I'm getting at the moment is of the same 'genre'.
I've been marking it as spam for over a week and I assume other customers do this as well so I'm puzzled as to why its still getting through.
Is there any point doing a 'toggle all' and hitting the spam button several times? Will this feed in more instances of the spam to help the training?

No (they don't use all the missed spam reported anyway)

Re: Have spam filters been trained over XMAS?

Have there been any clues as to what Plusnet do want reported? If they are manually checking each sample first then I presume its pointless to report multiple identical spams as it'd only waste time?
I've noticed an improvement today, looking at catch-all its gone from below 50% to over 70% spam caught.

Re: Have spam filters been trained over XMAS?

Hmmm, my boss has reported to me a sudden increase in false positives.  He says that around 50% of the [-SPAM-] tagged emails received this morning are actually genuine compared to usual couple a week.
Anybody else seeing similar?

Hmmm, just logged into my dad's spam folder.  It's tagged about twice as many [-SPAM-] messages so far today as it normally tags in a day... problem is.... many of them are genuine.

Why do you think I've turned off the spam checking Liam?

Re: Have spam filters been trained over XMAS?

As have I now.  My Dad doesn't know how to check the spam folder, so I do it for him every couple of days for him.
Just checked the first page of his Spam folder and every single one of the emails is genuine but has been marked as [-SPAM-] and all have been delivered today.
Something definitely went wrong with the training yesterday.
Then, I tried to mark them all as "Not Spam".  It thought for a while and then refreshed the page with :-
"ERROR:"
at the top, but no actual error.  Some of them are now marked as read.
Hmmm.....

Yup.  Most of the spam in my spam folder was genuine email.  Have switched of the Plusnet SPAM checker for now.

Yes it does. It indicates the importance of scientific research by the likes of Asche, Milgram, and many others, into the psychological  phenomenon of group conformity.

Superb!
Best post yet.

Re: Have spam filters been trained over XMAS?

I am in trouble - I deleted a spam email on my wife's account - guess what - it wasn't spam (well how was I to know that one of her friends had such a silly email address)  Embarrassed

Re: Have spam filters been trained over XMAS?

I wonder if dspam has been trained with a load of postini headers and now thinks that every email with postini headers is spam - or something like that.
Are you guys all on the Postini trial?
I just can't believe that more people aren't shouting about it after seeing how significantly useless dspam is now for my account.  The only thing I can think is that I'm on the Postini trial.

Re: Have spam filters been trained over XMAS?

It has - the headers posted by Bob Milton further up this thread illustrate that.
I pointed out a couple of days ago that the Postini trialists could well be more enthusiastic about reporting missed spam and that it would skew the detection as the common factor in all the reported emails would be the Postini headers.
Others were saying that the Postini headers should be ignored a week ago.
But typical Plusnet, wait until it goes totally and utterly pear shaped before you do anything about it. Sad
At least they have (finally) changed things today to make DSPAM ignore the Postini headers.
Edit: Liam: More people were shouting last week, but I'm guessing they'd given up shouting by now as it was obviously being ignored and they've just turned the DSPAM checking off.

Not yet they haven't - just checked my spam folder - 3 of the 4 messages are forum replies
Typical result
