Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

Morning all,
See the planned maintenance post here.
We're interested to know whether or not this work has helped to improve/fix the problems mentioned in the current Service Status thread. Hopefully it has.
Can people keep their eye on things over the coming days and report back with their findings?

Re: Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

My graphing was showing spikes of up to 100ms latency last night on titanium but steady around 40ms whilst we were doing the change. Will be keeping a close eye on things tonight.

Re: Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

Hi,
This hasn't worked for me, I live in Manchester and have a constant ping rate of 130+ms
Though at 12 midnight to 8am i get 70ms.
This is unacceptable, have you tried playing Modern Warfare 2 or any other computer game when you 1/2 second behind everyone else 😕
Thanks

Re: Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

Iiiinteresting......

C:\Users\Barry>tracert www.plus.net
Tracing route to portal.plus.net [212.159.9.2]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    5 ms    1 ms    1 ms  www.routerlogin.com [192.168.0.1]
  2    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  3    64 ms    63 ms    81 ms  gi1-6-604.pcl-gw02.plus.net [84.92.0.229]
  4    67 ms    66 ms    65 ms  te2-1.pcl-gw01.plus.net [212.159.1.113]
  5    85 ms    64 ms  136 ms  gi5-8.ptp-cr01.plus.net [84.93.224.48]
  6  285 ms    54 ms  248 ms  vlan2657.ptp-elb01.plus.net [84.93.224.36]
  7  367 ms    91 ms    68 ms  portal.plus.net [212.159.9.2]
Trace complete.
C:\Users\Barry>

Spotty results, although It may be because of me being on the DLM trial (although it was fine two nights ago at the same sync speed).
I also note the lack of ping response from the gateway - is this intentional, or is it just 'busy' ?
I'll gateway hop a few times and see what I come up with.

Re: Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

A router reboot and some gateway hopping later:

C:\Users\Barry>tracert www.plus.net
Tracing route to portal.plus.net [212.159.8.2]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    *        1 ms    1 ms  www.routerlogin.com [192.168.0.1]
  2  119 ms  113 ms  175 ms  lo0.plusnet.thn-ag2.plus.net [195.166.128.93]
  3  188 ms  166 ms  104 ms  vl604.thn-gw1.plus.net [84.92.4.169]
  4  304 ms  116 ms  111 ms  te3-2.ptn-gw01.plus.net [212.159.1.53]
  5  193 ms  122 ms  165 ms  gi3-0.pih-cr1.plus.net [212.159.1.177]
  6  152 ms  198 ms  306 ms  vlan7.pih-gw3.plus.net [212.159.0.26]
  7  123 ms  119 ms  144 ms  if25.pih-lb04.plus.net [212.159.0.18]
  8  141 ms  199 ms  221 ms  portal.plus.net [212.159.8.2]
Trace complete.
C:\Users\Barry>

So, it's not looking grerat atm.

Re: Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

Hiya,
I would say the the change has improved things but not completely fixed them. I regularly play Second life and since being moved to the 21CN network found it largely unusable from about 7 pm to 9pm. whereas outside of those hours it was fine. Since the change it is now possible to play it during those hours albeit with some difficulties - usually timing out when moving from one region to another.  Before the move this was not a problem.
BTW my ping time to www.plus.net is 73ms

Re: Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

no improvement. voice, cam, gaming still as bad as it was. stuttery, losing major packets, taking an age to get webpages even.
I too am in the Manchester area.
this is unacceptable as it is now the 2nd or 3rd week this has gone on for with absolutely no sign of the problem being solved.
guess you are still going to take my monthly payment in full though!

Re: Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

Pinging the portal servers (www.plus.net) isn't that great an idea because they are at the other end of the London/Sheffield links. ntp.plus.net is a better idea as those servers are in London.
Has anybody with access to both a 20CN and 21CN line on the same exchange compared the ping times?

Infact, the only thing that has improved is the ping. The connection has gotten much choppier and worse.

Re: Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

further to my previous post ..... video play off youtube is extremely choppy.... guess that's because of more video stuff. however the last couple of nights the connection has eased slightly after midnight. tonight it's way way worse with no improvement at all. voice packets being lost and cam / video looking like robotics from the 1980's.
i have had poor performance all day every day since this started on both of my accounts (home and work - 2 different locations)
is there any light at the end of this tunnel or we just going to be told "thank you for your patience" for the next god-knows how long?
I am not a techie by any stretch of the imagination but in any business if you don't provide the service you advertise you don't charge the people for it. you might want to think about that the next time you draw our monthly charges ..... and perhaps don't. Could even refund for the last month's awful service you have provided.

Re: Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

Still getting lag spikes here.
A tracert highlights a lag spike/bad connection mainly to [ lo0-plusnet.pcl-ag04.plus.net ], wherever that is. And thats only to [ ntp.plus.net ].
Note great, considering of course that my router checks periodically for ping to gateway, and if it fails too many times it logs a dropped sync, and then reconnects, or the connection is simply crap.
Spent 4 weeks so far on this High Speed connection, and it's been pretty dire.

Re: Has this morning's latency fix helped?- 27th January

I have just run pathping to ntp.plus.net and that gives 37ms to cdns.01.plus.net via thn-ag2. with 0% packet loss @ 0730gmt

@Plusnet staff / techies:
I'm working from home today so if you need me to do any tests/checks at certain intervals I'll be glad to help.
