HEC & CRC Errors

We had a brief (35mins) powercut 5 days ago whilst we were out and wondered whether it affected anything with regards to our connection.
Just thought I'd check the router (TG582n) details and see how it was performing after a SNR reset prior to the powercut.
Below are the details:
Uptime: 5 days, 2:40:42
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,240 / 19,628
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 135.63 / 2.44
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.8 / 0.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.8 / 18.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.1 / 3.1
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 9 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 1 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 2,095 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 88 / 1,892
HEC Errors (Up/Down):82 / 5,502
What are the HEC & CRC errors? and should I be concerned about them?

Re: HEC & CRC Errors

Both HEC and CRC errors are indications that a small piece of data was corrupted during transmission over your phone line. HEC and CRC are different checks that the modem does to verify the data was received correctly, data that fails a check is discarded. Those numbers of errors over 5 days are nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks for the confirmation ejs.

Re: HEC & CRC Errors

I agree with ejs there, those errors are nothing to be concerned about, in fact I'd go as far as saying that for a non-interleaved line (no FECs) with a 3dB Target SNRM on the DS, they are extremely good, especially the CRCs Smiley
