Google-Analytics.com

I notice I think just tonight that the forum index is very slow to finish of loading, looking at the bottom bar it is transferring data from Google-Analytics.com
What the heck is that?

Re: Google-Analytics.com

I'd noticed that too,  as i have a block on it.
I thought it was some kind of click tracking.

Re: Google-Analytics.com

Just monitoring software, seeing which pages are popular, where visitors came from etc
I use the same on my personal website, very useful :-)

Re: Google-Analytics.com

PlusNet have it installed on their forum
<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
    _uacct = "UA-1617269-1";
    urchinTracker();
</script>
Hardly an 'invasion', it doesn't do much beyond what a normal server log could show.  Phorm creates a profile for you from all the websites you visit, whereas this profiles the SITE, based on all of it's users

Re: Google-Analytics.com

It's just used by PN to get details of visitors to their sites, for goodness sake! Nothing to get hysterical about IMHO.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Analytics.
Its used by countless websites that you probably visit.....

Re: Google-Analytics.com

Thats your humble opinion, but it is just what Phorm were going to do for other ISP's, and they got a right load of flack about tracking programs being hidden from users

Re: Google-Analytics.com

Difference is:
Google Analytics tells PN which browsers have visited their site.
Phorm tells ISP what sites their user's browsers have visited.
Slight difference.
Basically Google Analytics is for companies to say 23% of our visitors use IE, 56% use Firefox, 1% use Safari (when it works) and the rest use Opera (for example).
Phorm will enable an ISP to customise their adverts based on previous visits to sites.

No. This is totally different to Phorm. Stordoff was right, see his earlier post where he said;
"it doesn't do much beyond what a normal server log could show.  Phorm creates a profile for you from all the websites you visit, whereas this profiles the SITE, based on all of it's users".
There is no comparison between this and Phorm.

I have the first three on my laptop - with XP.  Yesterday I was trying to print out the O2 (Mobile Phone) terms and conditions,  Firefox managed to get to item 11 on page one, IE got to item 9 and Safari printed three pages with all items.
still back to subject - ok it might be innocent, but why should I have to wait for a system fault that slowed down broadband before I found out it was there?  Another thread is praising PN's transparency
