Glacially slow speeds

I've been experiencing super-slow speeds for at least a month now. The issue does come and go - it's fine around 7:00am, but then I go to work, and by the time I come home it's very, very slow.
I've just run a BT speedtest:
Download speed: 0.21mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 7.17 Mbps
Upload speed: 0.06 mbps
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps
This really is becoming increasingly frustrating - I really do hope that tat someone at Plusnet can help here.
By the way, things have been so slow, I haven't been able to post anything here!

Re: Glacially slow speeds

Which gateway are you on? (you can find out here - http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway)

"Sorry, the tool currently could not identify your gateway; this does not mean that anything is wrong with your connection."

Re: Glacially slow speeds

Ah ok!
Try opening the command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) and type pathping bbc.co.uk - if you could then post the results here

Re: Glacially slow speeds

Sorry - forgot to mention I'm running a Mac.
What's the corresponding command? Tried this in Terminal and doesn't work.

Re: Glacially slow speeds

No worries
In Applications > Utilities there's a GUI called Network Utility...open this and chose Traceroute...use bbc.co.uk as the address

Re: Glacially slow speeds

Yes, but I've tried it wired as well and I still get the same.

Re: Glacially slow speeds

Ok a few more checks:
Can you go to speedtest.net run the test and share the result (image link) on here?
Next, can you go to http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ run the speed test, click on Further Diagnostics and then post the results?

Re: Glacially slow speeds

Can you try this again - http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway ?
If that still doesn't work, try Applications > Utilities > Network Utility then chose Traceroute and bbc.co.uk as the address  (then post the result)

Re: Glacially slow speeds

Can you try disconnecting/reconnecting from the router admin page until you change gateways (you can check the gateway from the checker site)? Then try the speedtest.net or BT one and see how it compares.
