Getting close to my bandwidth limit

I have received my first email (well actually twelve of them) from PN saying I am close to my bandwidth limit.  I never used to get anywhere near it when I last checked (<4GB per month).  For the last few months my usage has been up to 12GB (limit 15GB).  Is there any way I can find out in a bit more detail where the usage is coming from (apart from the summaries available on the portal).  And no, I don't have an unsecured wireless network.
Also why does PN need to send so many duplicate emails?

Re: Getting close to my bandwidth limit

Doesn't work for the xbox though Wink  I have used NetMeter but it includes LAN traffic which is not what I want.  I have quite a few PCs but only 2 are used regularly.
The stats for my account just say this:
Paid-For Usage  Free:  Total usage
Web 66% 0% 66%
Gaming 26% 0% 26%
Streaming 8% 0% 8%
Total usage so far 100% 0% 100%
Everything else is 0%.
Does youtube count as web or streaming?  Does gaming include all online gaming or just consoles?  What about podcasts?  There's loads of unknowns here.
I wish there was a kind of PAYG product without shaping.  If PN had this I'd go for it.
I have been considering the unlimited product but the shaping is more restrictive than BBYW2.

Re: Getting close to my bandwidth limit

Get the free version of net limiter, and install it on each pc with network access.
It will tell you when, how much, and which application is using your bandwidth, and can be restricted to just the internet traffic.

PS - then give up like I did, and go for unllimited.
PPS - xbox traffic is probably negligable.

Mapletree, for what it's worth Plusnet do have access to more detailed figures for your usage. I think they're generally reluctant to give them out, but perhaps with some coercion they might just agree.

Re: Getting close to my bandwidth limit

@be3g: I have raised a ticket on this so hopefully I will get some more info.
@tonycollinet: Everyone says xbox traffic is small but I have 26% of gaming use according to PN.

Re: Getting close to my bandwidth limit

We're able to get an hourly breakdown of overall traffic, but not an hourly breakdown of traffic type.

Re: Getting close to my bandwidth limit

Thanks.  Can you get a daily or weekly breakdown of traffic type instead?  Can I get a definition of exactly what goes into each category?  BTW: My ticket is: 30014002.
I would be grateful for a detailed answer to the other questions there about price limit and usage allowance too.

I can't personally, no.
It's posssible that the networks team may be able to generate this information, but it's way above access to what I have.

Re: Getting close to my bandwidth limit

@jelv: That's not PAYG is it?  It says it has a 15G/month limit.
@Jameseh: I'd be grateful for as much data as is feasible.

Re: Getting close to my bandwidth limit

Mapletree,
Pro is exactly the same as our old PAYG service, with a 15GB limit.  If you go over your usage allowance you can elect to pay for more usage in a PAYG fashion.
I've passed your ticket onto our Networks Team.

Re: Getting close to my bandwidth limit

Thanks James.  Can I do the same with my current product (BBYW2)?
