Hi there,
Do you know what sort of modem it is?  Is it a Voyager 105?

Re: General shout out for.......HELP

Surely all/most laptops have wifi built in.
Grin All you need to do  Grin is to persuade it to connect to the kiddies wifi.
Perhaps a Vista expert can help you.

Re: General shout out for.......HELP

Had the same problem myself with a friends new machine that has Vista  Angry
It seems that Vista cannot see some USB modems.
Went out and got him a cheap router and all is now well.  Smiley
Edit:- Off topic but. Just noticed that peoples post count has now been made to inlude those from the old forums.
Seems like Colin has done a good job.  Cool

Re: General shout out for.......HELP

Here is the BT website info relating to Vista drivers for modems
Linky To BT
If your machine is 64 Bit then make sure you get the correct driver.

Re: General shout out for.......HELP

Yep, unfortunately you will need to get a router.
You can purchase a Voyager 2110 (a 4-port wireless router) from us, at a cost of £50, or alternatively you can pick up routers fairly cheap from some online retailers.

Re: General shout out for.......HELP

There is some benefits from this...
A router needs no setup disk and is not tied to any specific Operating System and needs no drivers - so that when you dump Vista the router will still work.
A router also tends to give a more stable and sometimes faster connection and can connect to multiple computers simultaneously.

Re: General shout out for.......HELP

Yep I've bought a similar model router off DSL Depot for about the same money. I bought it for a cheapo spare.
If you don't mind the router being a reconditioned one, then I don't think you can complain for the money!
The one I got from them was fine.

Re: General shout out for.......HELP

Have a look at the speedtouch 716wl or 780 routers they are 4-port, wireless and voip cost about £60.  I got mine direct from Plusnet.
Voip means you get 240 minutes of free calls every month from
plusnet why lose them?
You can make calls without leaving the computer on and it like having an extra telephone line free no line rental and any UK std code you want

Alternatively, you could ask for a "loyalty bonus", requiring a yearly contract. With the £30 saved you could buy your own choice of hardware.
