Gateway lottery

Every time lately I have to reboot  my router I will get a gateway that is problematic with general browsing and watching streams, let alone gaming.  I then have to drop multiple PPP sessions to find a gateway not affected.
Since a reboot at 4pm today every gateway is the same for my connection/exchange and due to do another gateway hop after posting this.
PCL-AG05
PTN-AG02
PCL-AG02
There are more but the TG582n router logs don't record that far.  Getting tired of this.
edit: and there is more
PCL-AG04
PTW-AG02
ptn-ag04
until PCL-AG03 with no loss

Really sorry to hear you've had problems Gus.
Has anyone else noticed any issues at all?

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: Gateway lottery

Gus, I know of no reasons as to why you think some gateways perform better.
What problems are you seeing?

Re: Gateway lottery

My latency varies considerably depending on the gateway. Pcl ag01 & 02 are the best.

Re: Gateway lottery

@ Kelly General browsing slows / streams are likely to stutter or stop / rubber banding when online gaming and usually the TBB graph shows a constant 1-5% loss
The attached graph shows the loss I had last night after trying to find a gateway not affected.  The edited in gateways on my first post are the ones I tried in sequence until I got  onto PCL-AG03 with no issues since.
This has been happening for a while, with some others also affected at same time going by their TTB graphs.

Re: Gateway lottery

Hi Gus,
I have a theory as to what the problem is but to prove it I'll need to take a look at exactly where you are connected to when the problem happens (or, if the next time the problem happens, don't disconnect/reconnect and we can then see where you're connected through).
AAISP have seen packet loss on the Falkirk BRASs (which your connection is on), we can see a bit too on our monitoring but probably not as much. My theory is that there's congestion on one of the routes between the BRASs and us but not every route. The route will change when you disconnect/reconnect. This is probably why AAISP see it across all their lines but we aren't.
http://clueless.aaisp.net.uk/congestion.cgi
We can see the route you're taking but only at the point we look, so I can see now you are on this route:
BTBRASName: bras-red5-2401.fk.21cn-infra.bt.net.
Node: Falkirk
Network: WBC
EndPointName: PCL-AG03WBCColindale2
Next time you see the problem, don't disconnect and let us know and we'll check the route.

Dave won't be back in till tomorrow.  Feel free to gateway hop and try and find one during working hours tomorrow.  (Or if you can handle the poorer performance, stick it out! Smiley )

Re: Gateway lottery

Sorry to bother to ask silly question, are these gateway coming from BT 21CN network or within Plusnet 21CN network?
