Thanks gave them all a go but they made the ping time worse rather than better so put it back onto automatic Smiley

Re: Gaming problems, is it down to my Internet or is it down to the 2704n router

Hi Alex, if you were testing with your Android Tab close to the Modem/Router you shouldn't have noticed any difference with a very strong signal. It will be when you are further away that things may deteriorate. Also if you were testing at a peak time (eg. earlier this evening) it may be worse due to congestion. What sort of ping times are you seeing now?

Re: Gaming problems, is it down to my Internet or is it down to the 2704n router

Hi again sorry I didn't know you had replied.  Now its 1.07pm (non peak time I think) I am right next to my router and this is the results..
When I am on my xbox one (through a wired connection) and playing call of duty, they have a menu where you can see your ping time and those numbers can be quite high up to 330 ms.
my latency is 160 and above never below this is there a reason my latency is so high?
Thanks for helping me with all this.

Re: Gaming problems, is it down to my Internet or is it down to the 2704n router

Hi Alex, no worries. If you select your Profile in the Navbar at the top of the page, and select >Notifications & Email you can make sure that you get notified of replies, also that your email address is correct.
Whilst there is still a fair bit of variation in the ping/latency times to ntp.plus.net there are a couple of quite low ones which suggest Interleaving is turned off on your line, which you need for the best experience. But I think it would be a good idea if we had some CRT input to check your WBC Profile and make sure it is off, also an xDSL status check to see what errors and your line ILQ is like. It might be that the error rate is a bit on the high side and a slightly higher SNRM may help.
I mentioned about the low ping times - 15.4, 17.4, 17.2 which will any event depend of your exchange location relevant to the Gateways or PoP. What exchange are you on?
When on CoD the actual ping that you get will depend on the location of the server hosting the game as well as the ping time of their connection.

Re: Gaming problems, is it down to my Internet or is it down to the 2704n router

Hi there I have it linked to my emails just hadn't logged into them lol I will check more often Smiley
I have no idea what exchange I am on is there a way of finding out? Also could I ask 2 hat crp input is? Sorry I'm not very tech savvy at all lol.
Yeah I get you with cod it all depends on the host of the match Smiley  can I ask what causes latency being so high? I have always had high latency is that all to do with ping times?
I have got a question submitted but response times from plus net staff are ultra slow.

Re: Gaming problems, is it down to my Internet or is it down to the 2704n router

Hi there. I think you meant CRT there - Customer Relations Team - they are the Plusnet guys that frequent the forum. If you post the Ticket (Question) number, that will enable them to take a look and find it quicker. Latency/Ping - same thing, so yes. It has a lot to do with distance from data centres and how many peering points etc your connection has to go through to get to the host. If you send me a PM (Private message) see My Messages in the Navbar at the top, with the first 5 digits of your landline number then I can look up your exchange.
I've had another idea as well, but I want to research it a little more, I'll try and post late tonight or in the morning.

Yeah that's the one lol, I get you, that would be good if they could look into that..
The question number is #119027789.
I shall PM you my first 5 digits now.

Re: Gaming problems, is it down to my Internet or is it down to the 2704n router

Loop Loss: 25.5
SNR Margin: 3.3
Speed: 944    15636
Indicative Line Quality: A
Mean Time Between Errors Downstream (Seconds): 104

The SNR was down at a target of 3db, I can see the MTBE was lower than ideal so we've increased the target SNR to 6db. This was done yesterday, so it's worth monitoring over the next 24 hours to see how the line performs.

Is Interleaving turned off Chris? (not on Auto).

Interleaving is currently set to auto, and is on for the downstream right now. I wouldn't turn this off at the moment due to the low MTBE.

His ping time is more important than the Target SNRM should DLM decide to up it, the slight loss of speed is of no consequence to gaming as I'm sure you know Wink  It's lag that is bothering him most at present.

Yep, but turning interleaving off whilst the line is erroring could cause more issue with throughput and latency.

Whilst that's of course true, the SNRM was down at 3.3. Can you revisit this tomorrow perhaps please?

Re: Gaming problems, is it down to my Internet or is it down to the 2704n router

Good Morning all.
I just wondered how everything was looking today? I wasn't able to get onto my xbox one yesterday as my son smashed our television yesterday morning sob sob.  I'm getting a new telly today so should be able to test how everything is going from a gaming point of view.
Thanks for your support Anotherone, yes lag really is the biggest issue, it makes the difference on whether I can have fun or not doing a hobby I enjoy, and that's mostly why I need Internet at home.
Also can I ask am I on ADSL2+ ?
