Gadually Sinking Speeds

After 2 months absence I started using my Metronet ADSL again on Feb 21st. My line profile has been steadily reduced and is currently at 2000 kbps (I think it was 3500 kbps on Feb 21st). The line sync is 3776 kbps.
Can anything be done to get the line profile put back to a value nearer to my DSL connection rate?
results below:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 3776 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1827 kbps

Thanks

Re: Gadually Sinking Speeds

What does it say <a href="https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed!>here</a>? (You will need to log in with your username and password.) This tells you the profile according to Plusnet. Next, what does a <a href="http://www.speedtester.bt.com">BT speedtest</a> say? If the two profiles are different then ask someone at PN to manually update it.
Edit: fixed link

Forgot to say that I'm with Metronet, not PN so can't log in to the link provided.
BT speedtest results are as given in my post.

Re: Gadually Sinking Speeds

Mikko - If you sync speeds stay like that, you should get moved onto a 3Mbps profile.

Re: Gadually Sinking Speeds

From BT Speedtest at 12.06 pm today: Line profile is now 3000 kbps, DSL connection rate is 3648 but IP throughput still only 1797 kbps.
Please advise,
Thanks,

Re: Gadually Sinking Speeds

It sounds like our system hasn't caught up yet, I'll go kick things and see if we can get you back to the higher speeds. Can you try rebooting your modem/router and try another speed test?

Re: Gadually Sinking Speeds

But now line profile is back to 2000 kbps. Sync speed is still OK though. See attached.

Re: Gadually Sinking Speeds

Sounds like a momentary blip unfortunately.
The profile should pick up again in the next 2-3 days.

Re: Gadually Sinking Speeds

I get the impression you don't leave your router on 24/7. If so, and you switch on when noise levels are higher (evening/after dark), you'll sync at lower speeds which will lower your profile.

Re: Gadually Sinking Speeds

Yes, I usually turn my router off at night and on next morning, athough time vary so that may be the cause. I'll keep an eye on the times and the consequences.
I was remembering what someone said when I first went on 'up to 8 mbps' - " the green option is to turn of your router overnight". .

Re: Gadually Sinking Speeds

True about being green, you need to trade that off against your own requirements for performance etc.
Generally speaking if you switch on between an hour after sunrise to an hour before sunset when noise tends to be lowest, you'll get the higest sync speeds. If you are on a 6dB Target SNRM however, there may be another trade off, if your noise levels go very low after dark (causing loss of sync), if may be better to sync when noise levels are higher so the margins don't drop as low.
