Frequent Connection Drops and long connection times

For the last month i have been getting frequent drops in my connection, its now getting beyond a joke, i work from home and need a constant conenction for web conference ect.
For example today, i disconnect at 4.30pm, comes back on, then discons again, takes 7 mins to get back on, then discons again, ths happened for about half an hour.
This really needs sortng out, ive done all the otehr usual checks, differnt filters, from main socket, new modem, still happens, does any 1 else have this probelm?
if its not sorted this week, im off, i cant afford to mss all this work because of my connection.
ive been with plusnet for about 5 years, no 1 seems to be botehring to help me, despite this.

Re: Frequent Connection Drops and long connection times

can you post the DSL connection statistics from your equipment?
Could you also try to run a speedtest from http://speedtester.bt.com

Re: Frequent Connection Drops and long connection times

Can you confirm that you still get the same drops if you are plugged in to the test socket behind the master socket?

Re: Frequent Connection Drops and long connection times

I presume you have raised a fault using http://faults.plus.net/applications.php?Module=Faults
What responses have you had to that (if you post the contents of your questions make sure you remove the agents names)

my kit is
netgear rp114 router, connected to

The only repsones i get is to try the fault checker...over and over again
that was a record, up for 43 mins, then down, then 5 mins to get back on!!

Re: Frequent Connection Drops and long connection times

I'm not familiar with that model of modem, but you should be able to go to the configuration screen and find the line statistics.
Stats should include sync speed, SNR (Noise) margin and attenuation.  These figures should give us a fairly good idea as to the quality of your line.

Re: Frequent Connection Drops and long connection times

In addition, if you pick the phone up and dial 17070 then choose option 2, do you hear crackling or hissing on the line?  Also try this when your modem has dropped connection and is trying to reconnect.
Another thing to try is to remove the lower half faceplate from your master socket and use a modem lead to plug your router directly into the test socket with no filter or extension wiring and see if that makes a difference.

Re: Frequent Connection Drops and long connection times

I'm confused as to why you can't get to the modem - surely you had to enter the login details in to that to get connected in the first place?

Re: Frequent Connection Drops and long connection times

Yup, i did that (connected modem to pc, ethernet), configured so it connected, then plugged modem to router, router to pc, as you would and configured a small lan.
