I know that during the first ten days the exchange is attempting to ascertain my top speed, I'm now five days into this process and the speed is still, well concerning.
The top speed I've achieved to date is 1182 kbps, the norm around 300 - 400 kbps.
Stats from my router:
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 8128 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 38
System Up Time 00:36:48
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 8448 11364 0 866 4386 00:35:21
LAN 10M/100M 14053 12098 0 4568 1250 00:36:44
WLAN 11M/54M 0 0 0 0 0 00:00:00
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 23.0 db 13.5 db
Noise Margin 7.9 db 28.0 db
Regarding the uptime, I had to unplug the router to replace the network cable, the connection has been very stable - zero dropped connections, as suggested I've disconnected the router a couple of times to re-connect to the exchange, however my speeds are just not increasing.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Phone exchange:
SMALLBROOK
Estimated line speed:
8 - Checked on 2010-10-18 21:10:25
Current line speed:
7150
BT Speedtester
Download speedachieved during the test was - 396 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps
Allow me to cover off other stuff, I've ran virus & malware/spyware checks - clean as a whistle, I don't use the windows 7 firewall. I use a wired connection with a 2 metre cable, my router is plugged into the master socket, I don't have anything plugged into any other extensions, I've tried the test socket - no difference. Today I installed an ADSL faceplate to my master socket, it's improved the SNR.
I'm stumped - I suspect it's exchange related or profile related.

If that doesn't work you will need to raise a speed fault - unfortunately BT won't accept until the 10 days are over

I expect that my exchange Smallbrook is rammed to & over capacity and that it's not being reported, I've read similar reports. It's extremely frustrating to have the best line stats I've ever had and the worst speed I've ever had to go with that.

How do you connect to the router, wired or wireless? If normally wireless have you tried a speed test wired?

Always wired, router is plugged into the master socked and I run a 2 metre cable to my desktop. I'm glad you're as puzzled as I am, just can't find anything wrong my side.

Check that none of your telephone extensions still work.
Try the speed test again.

Are you seeing this speed all day long or just in the evening. I would imagine if it was a capacity issue that you'd only see it at the busier times.

The few times I have been on in the morning the speeds have been better - but nothing to sing & dance about, typically the speeds are around 700 - 900 kbps. My best speed test ever has been 2000 kbps and the next best before that 1182 kbps. Monday - Friday from 0800 - 1800 I'm normally at work so I don't know if the speeds are anywhere near what I'm expecting, but in the evening when I am on the speeds are bad.
Cheers.
EDIT - some of the speeds I quoted were slightly out: Here's my history on mybroadbandspeed

I've just ran some checks and all looks ok on the surface. I've checked the VP at the exchange and that is showing as green. As you're within the 10 days we can't raise a fault but I'll have a word with one of the faults team tomorrow and see I can get him to email the suppliers and get them to check if there are any capacity issues.
