Details of the firmware are available on the following page.

What if any problems are you seeing on the device, as changing firmware may not always be the possible solution.

Re: Firmware for PlusNet supplied ThomsonTG585v8 router

Thanks for that information.  From the description of the bug fixed by v. 8.2.7.8, I can see that I have no need to uprev from v. 8.2.7.7.
I was wondering if there were any bugs affecting ADSL performance.  I see that there are quite a lot of downstream HEC errors which I hope are almost all correctable one bit HEC errors.

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 282 / 88,350
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 494 / 1,319,169
Performance seems unaffected by HEC errors.  Skype works very well.
I should add that a TG585v7 has reported few HEC errors on the same line

Re: Firmware for PlusNet supplied ThomsonTG585v8 router

I have never understood error reporting on Thomson/Technicolor routers. "Error Seconds" tend to follow "CRC Errors", yet you have only 5 "Error Seconds" and 88,350 "CRC Errors". That is basically impossible.

This is why I had doubts about the firmware.

Re: Firmware for PlusNet supplied ThomsonTG585v8 router

Whichever firmware and whichever model 585, I've seen "inconsistencies" in such stats periodically. Whilst it creates doubts and is no doubt frustrating, you are best to ignore it unless you are having problems with your connection.
It is possible to have much lower ES errors than CRC errors but it would be extremely unusual for them to be that much lower, but, they are being reported as UPstream errors not downstream as Gigabit suggested. Now I have seen errors being reported "back to front" but this is usually because of the way they are recovered from the modem/router by the firmware not because the modem/router isn't performing well.
There are no downstream ES being reported either because they aren't being recovered correctly or they aren't ES, but SES. You don't want to see SES nor any "Loss of .." errors, so all good there.
The FEC errors don't seem out of the way for the uptime and data transferred, but the HEC & CRC errors are a bit higher than one would like to see, but this can depend on how noisey your line may be. What you could do is have a look at how much the errors increase after dark compared to much earlier in the day for a similar sort of usage.

Re: Firmware for PlusNet supplied ThomsonTG585v8 router

Thank you for that appreciation of my router stats.  I think that I have a better feel for the subject now.
I have put a TG585v7 online this afternoon and the reported number of HEC errors are much smaller in comparison with FEC errors than with the TG585v8.  Also there have been no upstream errors reported yet on the TG585v7.
This suggests that the Thomson stats should be taken with a large bag of salt.
It seems to me that the TG585v8 seems to hang on to a connection better than the TG585v7 but I have no firm evidence for that supposition, just a hunch.
For what it's worth, here is half an hour's stats from the TG585v7 : -
