Re: FIREWALLS KILLING MY INTERNET

Have you got a DMZ setup on your network - perhaps to a games console ?

Re: FIREWALLS KILLING MY INTERNET

Well ICMP is ping or  tracert.
87.114.55.30 is a Plusnet IP - almost certainly your own. It isn't responding to pings which is probably your router default and can probably be changed although it's more secure as it is.
The source IPs appear to be non-commercial or at least the few I've checked are owned by Sky,  BT, and TalkTalk
Why they are pinging you I don't know - could be gaming or maybe P2P related. Maybe it's a games console that is hanging?

Re: FIREWALLS KILLING MY INTERNET

ICMP is not just ping or tracert. In this case, the type of packet is a type you would receive if you sent something to one of those IPs, but it couldn't get there.
The firewall log messages are almost certainly a symptom of some other problem, the firewall unlikely to be the cause of the problem.

Re: FIREWALLS KILLING MY INTERNET

I know ICMP covers more than ping and tracert but those are by far the most common uses of the protocol.
All the frewall is doing is reporting the error it isn't blocking anything.

Re: Firewalls killing my internet

The most significant parts of that log are:
15:58:10 xDSL linestate up
15:57:57 xDSL linestate down
So your problem is the ADSL dropping, but it re-connects so quickly that the PPP session doesn't even drop. Perhaps upgrade to the 10.2 firmware for the 582n?

Re: Firewalls killing my internet

Try plugging the modem into the TEST socket (inside the MASTER phone socket), and see whether that fixes the disconnections.

Re: Firewalls killing my internet

Posting irrelevant firewall logs isn't going to make your disconnections disappear !
Have you tried doing any of the things suggested in this thread, to try and eliminate potential causes of your connection issue ?

Re: Firewalls killing my internet

Im logging them so that when tommorow comes, the forum moderators have plenty of notes to give them in idea of what the problem is! and no i have not as i will wait for a reply from a plusnet member of staff who is trained in their profession instead of somebody who may/may not have a clue what their talking about.
