Fibre speed dropping

When I was first connected the estimate line speed was 72Mb and my actual was at 49Mb.
Download speeds were between 4.8 and 5.0 MB/s and pretty stable, the upload speed determined as about 11 Mb/s.
Now my connection is mainly between about 200 Kb/s and 3.6MB/s download speed and very erratic. Upload is determined as about 6 Mb.
I now have an email stating....    Now that your service has now been active for 14 days, we thought we'd let you know the speed as it stands today, by way of comparison.
Estimated line speed: 6.5Mbps
Current line speed: 45Mbps
Does this mean I can expect my connection to drop to 6.5 Mb/s?
My connection was much better for the first week but seems to have deteriorated since then. Is there anything that can be tweaked to improve things?

Re: Fibre speed dropping

I got a similar email 14 days in, it seems to be ADSL estimated speeds so I'd just ignore it. It didn't mean my line dropped to such low speeds.
Maybe someone should stop sending those out  Crazy

Re: Fibre speed dropping

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
37.14 Mbps

0 Mbps 39.84 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 37.14 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 16 Mbps-39.84 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 39.84 Mbps
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
7.67 Mbps

0 Mbps 20 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 7.67Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
My connection is still erratic and slowly being lowered. Any comment from Plusnet?

Re: Fibre speed dropping

Well, can't see a terrific amount of drops: <img src="http://community.plus.net/visualradius/generated/image13759586813913.png"/>
Though your sync speed is definitely falling. I suspect that's down to the crosstalk issues to be honest, which isn't something we can help with - you'd be welcome to raise a fault but I'm not sure there's anything that'd be accepted by our suppliers there unfortunately.

Re: Fibre speed dropping

I don't lose connection, it just falls to low speed ~200kb/s and then gradually wanders about till it gets back to about 3.4 MB/s..
The engineer who installed the modem said I should achieve 50Mb/s after his test. That is what I was getting and a steady connection, but since then the slow drop and erratic speed has continued.
What is this crosstalk you mention, what is causing it?

Re: Fibre speed dropping

From what I understand it's the fibre lines in the cabinet interfering with each other in some way. As I said I believe it's being investigated (by our suppliers) but we've no information either on the problem itself or what's being done about it.
