Fibre Speed

Been doing some speed tests at home on my fibre connection.  My connection, according to the member centre is apparently 63, however I don't seem to get near that.
On wireless, near the router, from three different provider tests, I get 25, 30, and 29.  I don't mind a drop in wireless, but thought I'd ask if these wired tests sounds right.
On the same three providers tests, I am getting around 45, 45, and 39.  Is it right to get around 20mb less than the line appears to be syncing at?

Re: Fibre Speed

Hi no that doesn't sound right , I'm at 63 in the members centre also get 59Mb when i'm not being effected by the peek time issues that myself and others are having as stated in this on going thread http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,124744.608.html
do you get this issue no matter when you do the tests or just peek time ?
have you also done a BTW test from here http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/
run it then when it's finished pick further diagnostic and enter your phone number it will tell you what your BTW IP profile is which should be 63Mb like your plusnet profile, if it's lower than that  it could be the reason for the lower speeds and plusnet will need to contact BTw to get it changed.

Re: Fibre Speed

Let us know how you get on if you can try the speed test Terranova667 linked too. I've checked over your line and can't see any obvious cause or issues.

Re: Fibre Speed

Thanks guys.  I'll look at doing a further test tonight and post the results.  I'll also try my own laptop as this was on my new works laptop.
I've added an Xbox One to the network with Sky running through it, and while I was only watching TV, it is connected to the router so perhaps that was doing something too.  I'll put that into standby too when I run the tests.

Re: Fibre Speed

If you've got instant on active on your xbox one then standby doesn't really do much, it just turns off your devices, the xbone will continue to update its OS, apps and what your friends are up to even when on standby. Best to unplug the xbox one when you run the test to ensure that you get a good, accurate result

Re: Fibre Speed

Good plan.  I'll take the Ethernet cable out of it.

Re: Fibre Speed

Ran some tests at around 6.15pm, on various sites, and while they sometimes vary quite a bit (the uswitch one in particular at around 45mb), the BT wholesale one seems fine around the 60mb mark.
It's odd how some tests can have double the upload as to what BT reports, but 15mb less on the download.
speedtest.net 58.92 / 18.37
       58.08 / 16.97
thinkbb 58.45 / 18.7
       59.33 / 18.49
uswitch        46.60 / 9.9
       44.50 / 12.1
bbspeedchecker       58.19 / 8.16
                        60.34 / 9.83
BT Wholesale Test 61.62 / 11.91
        61.39 / 13.89
Edit: Uswitch has now decided to test at 57.7 / 14.9 too 🙂
