Fibre Outage

Hi
Been with PN for less than 24 hours and we've had a dropout!   Grin  Grin There's an announcement on the status page about a lot of disconnections being reported so I guess it's that? but no-one else has posted about it yet.  I don't want to start rebooting my BTO modem too often in the first days or DLM will go beserk.  I'd appreciate a heads up when the problem is fixed so I can reset my equipment only once, till then I'll tether my phone and watch Judge Rinder (I know, I know...)
I'm on the LVROY Liverpool Royal exchange.

Re: Fibre line down

Hey launton,
Its typical this sort of thing happens on a Friday.
We'll post a update on the service status as soon as we get more info on the drops but I'll try to update this post as well.
Cheers Smiley

Re: Fibre line down

fwiw, I witnessed a problem around 12.51 this afternoon which led to loss of internet connectivity.  I noticed the non-Plusnet DNS server IP addresses in the router log and the 'private' 172.16.x.x address assigned to my WAN side connection.
Fri Aug 29 12:51:49 2014 IPCP: secondary DNS address (62.6.38.125)  <- Not Plusnet DNS
Fri Aug 29 12:51:49 2014 IPCP: primary DNS address (62.6.38.125)
Fri Aug 29 12:51:49 2014 IPCP: remote IP address (81.146.181.7)
Fri Aug 29 12:51:49 2014 IPCP: local IP address (172.16.83.101)
Fri Aug 29 12:51:49 2014 CHAP authentication succeeded.
Fri Aug 29 12:51:45 2014 PPPoE: Received PADS for WAN-1. (Session ID: 42e)
Fri Aug 29 12:51:45 2014 PPPoE: Sending PADR for WAN-1.
Fri Aug 29 12:51:45 2014 PPPoE: Received PADO for WAN-1, from: 00:30:88:00:00:0a
Fri Aug 29 12:51:45 2014 PPPoE: Sending PADI for WAN-1.
Fri Aug 29 12:51:41 2014 PPPoE: Sending PADT for WAN-1. (Session ID: 2da)
Fri Aug 29 12:51:39 2014 PPP: Connection terminated.
I disconnected the PPP session and reconnected a couple of minutes later at the router, and all is still working at time of writing.  See portion of log below:
Fri Aug 29 12:57:59 2014 IPCP: primary DNS address (212.159.6.9)
Fri Aug 29 12:57:59 2014 IPCP: remote IP address (195.166.128.189)
Fri Aug 29 12:57:59 2014 IPCP: local IP address (84.xx.xx.xx)
Fri Aug 29 12:57:57 2014 CHAP authentication succeeded.
Time is 14:30

Re: Fibre line down

Ah, thank god it's not just me... I just happened to have the day off work and had been packing a few boxes ahead of a house move, so thought something must've been damaged as it coincidentally went down just after my GF had finished packing stuff up from around the router... Managed to get a connection up thanks to my router's dual WAN functionality (USB tethering - so damn handy!)
@launton - don't let this put you off - it's the first outage I've experienced in well over a year of having Plusnet fibre. It's kind of telling that my initial reaction was that it must be something I'd done wrong!

Re: Fibre line down

I had the same too. IP Address was very strange after 1pm from my own static ip address to unknown ip address 172.16.x.x. I try to connected to different gateway about 7 times and finally get through. What a pain that was! But Openreach Modem staying active. Just the router soft reconnection ( PPP session) does the job.

Re: Fibre line down

I'm far too laid back to spit my dummy out for a disconnection, it's not the end of the world and I'm not going to start shouting

Re: Fibre Outage

Mine reconnected properly a short while ago. Originally my router showed as connected, but had the unusual looking 172.x addresses for WAN IP and gateway and I couldn't do anything with the connection. It disconnected by itself and then reconnected with something a bit more normal...
I'm guessing someone plugged a cable in where it didn't belong!!

I've just reconnected within a normal IP range
