Re: Fast Forward program as mentioned by Plus to advise of Spam

Have you picked up on this:

Also, I would like to ask anyone having problems with FFW to:
1) read all the documentation
2) if a problem persists, please contact me via my website at www.neolics.com or via the forum at RouterTech.Org.
... ...

I'm sure the author of FastForward is an amenable bloke and the best person to help you.

Zone Alarm Pro has now declared that there is 'Power Spy', which is Medium Risk, in mapiprop.dll.
As I said previously (and others too) ZoneAlarm is just being over cautious - there is no risk with the mapiprop component itself.

the best I can do is forget about it and remove the program.
Of course, that's up to you, but there is no actual danger in using it and if you are having problems then as myself and ChrisL (thanks :)) have said, please read ALL the documentation and then contact me with the details of the issues via my website or the RouterTech.Org forum Wink
BTW, Bob Pullen has kindly supplied the new target addresses so I have updated FFW accordingly Wink

Re: Fast Forward going nowhere!

No, I wasn't aware that was necessary :-\, however, reading http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,59439.0.html I see that it is. I wonder why it has changed Sad
I have sent an email to Bob to ask him if he could explain the exact requirements in a little more detail Wink

Re: Fast Forward going nowhere!

Hi Neo,
This should help explain why it's necessary.
I should have mentioned it when I contacted you TBH.

Re: Fast Forward going nowhere!

Thanks Bob Wink
I realise now that essentially you are planning to just forwarding spam emails to the Postini system (rather than process them yourselves). It's possible that if the spam received by PlusNet customers is fairly unique (which it could be considering the breach a while back) that the detection system might not be very effective since the emails from PlusNet would only make up a small fraction of those in the Postini database. Of course, the advantage is that overall the Postini system should be better equipped for a bigger spread of spam types.
What about the 'ham' (false positives)? Where are you sending that? I thought Postini only deal with missed spam?

Re: Fast Forward going nowhere!

I've put the new ISP file in FFW and I will forward any HAM and SPAM inline using FastForward.
That's the best I can do. Will that work.

No - Postini requires them as attachments not inline.

Re: Fast Forward going nowhere!

Well Fast Forward includes the full headers.  Surely Postini can process them inline too if they have the full headers? Has anyone asked?

Re: Fast Forward going nowhere!

They could I suppose be forwarded as attachments at our side. TBH, I would have thought that now you can forward as an attachment part of the original reason for using the plugin is somewhat negated?

Re: Fast Forward going nowhere!

No, it's still worth using for the easy 1-click automation of the process.
I don't get much spam now, but if I do I'll use FFW to forward it to you and the rest is up to you really.

Re: Fast Forward going nowhere!

Version 1.2.2 now supports sending as attachments Wink
Hopefully Postini will continue to reduce the amount of incoming spam, but I think it's still easier/quicker to use FastForward to pass on emails than manually attaching them. Also, it provides several other features and I was thinking of adding some Postini header analysis etc...if people are interested Smiley
