FTTC installed but speed quite far from IP profile given

Hi there,
I got my Fiber broadband (80Mb) installed today. While I can see a huge difference with what I had before, I'm somehow surprised to not have a quicker download as expected.
The IP profile given by PlusNet is the following:
Postcode:
Phone exchange: BERMONDSEY
Estimated line speed: 80Mb (Download speed could vary depending on line conditions. Estimates are the maximum speeds that your phone line can support. These speeds are dependent on the package you choose.) - Checked on 2013-10-16 11:59:21
Current line speed: 78 Mb

However the BT Wholesale speed test gives me the following:
Download (Mbps): 59.17
Upload (Mbps): 15.7

And most of the speed tests I did on the Net gave me a download closer to 50 Meg...
Does this look right to you?
Thanks for your help
Vincent

Just to add I did already reboot the OpenReach modem but it looks like no improvements (do not want to do this too often).

Are you testing via a wireless or cabled link between the router and your computer ?

Hi Picbits,
Good point. Wireless. I tried wired but got limited to 10 Mb. My laptop has a Gb Ethernet port, I believe the PlusNet router too?Huh
Or is it the cable? Getting confused!

I've checked your sync speed and you're currently at 80Mb/s download and 20Mb/s upload,.
I'd try the wired connection again.

Re: FTTC installed but speed quite far from IP profile given

Thanks Chris.
Ok I've finally managed to test by wire properly.
Better results:
1; BT Wholesale: Down: 73.4, Up: 10
2. http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/.
Strange results there (and ran it 3 or 4 times, similar results): Down: 40, Up: 8
3. http://www.speedtest.net/
Down: 69, Up: 15.6
Does that leads me to conclude I do not have any pb on the line and with the profile but that the PlusNet router is only average?

I seem to be capped at below 50 in download wirelessly...
Advise to invest in a better router?

Re: FTTC installed but speed quite far from IP profile given

Mybroadbandspeed is notoriously unreliable - believe the speedtest results more than the mybroadbandspeed.
Getting 50-60mb/s wirelessly is pretty good actually - I only manage around 40-45 on my laptop and that is with a TP-Link 300Mbs router (not the Plusnet one).
Personally I think you'll find the 50Mb+ is fine for 99% of everything you do so maybe stick with your current router and see if you are happy.
Also try thinkbroadband for a fairly accurate speed checker.
Welcome to Plusnet by the way Cheesy

Thinkbroadband speedtest, accurate? Maybe is when it works properly, On and off i get really low upload speeds in the results, low as in less than 50% of my upstream throughput, that tester or any of the transits that feed it aren't that reliable,And the  slow upload results have been like that for weeks, I don't have the same issue with speedtest.net ,
