To keep this simple I have just had FTTC installed and have a BT modem located near to the master socket. The guidance which comes with the router states that you should use the red cable provided but I would like the locate the router in a more central location within our house and intent to run ethernet to it. I have setup and have internet on at the moment (currently at 2Mbit) and I am awaiting this to increase and settle before I start tinkering. Can I use an alternative to the 'red' cable or is there something special about it? (looks like standard Cat5e) Thanks Jonathan
Assuming this is to connect between the modem and the router then, yes, it's standard cat5/cat5e.
