FTTC Current line speed.

When I was first connected to FTTC my BT profile was 38717 and Plusnet reported my current line speed as 37M.
Six months later the BT profile is unchanged but Plusnet are now reporting the current line speed as 35M.
No problem, but I'm curious about this 2M "drop".  Huh

Re: FTTC Current line speed.

FTTC will suffer from cable cross talk much more than ADSL/ADSL2
This is interference between individual pairs and adjacent pairs in the cable bundle that runs back to the street cabinet
As more and more people get connected to fibre at your local cabinet this cross talk will get worse.
The result will be gradually decreasing line speeds with time.
I have no idea if this is what you are seeing here....but it's a possibility

Re: FTTC Current line speed.

Hi Jojo
Here you go:
> Download speedachieved during the test was - 29853 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 12000-38717 Kbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is -38717 Kbps
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 1472 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 2000 Kbps
It's a bit slow because the better half started browsing on her computer halfway through!  I usually get about 33Mb.

Re: FTTC Current line speed.

Hi ffox,
I've just raised it back up, see if that makes any difference. Can take about 15 minutes or so.

Do you know why Plusnet dropped it to 35Mb?  The BT profile has never dropped as far as I know.

Re: FTTC Current line speed.

I can only assume we received a report telling us it had changed to that Smiley
