Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps tonight

Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but my speed never improved from the 42Mb.
In fact it had dropped to mid 30's for quite some time now. But over the last week or so the IP profile is now down to 19.36Mbs download.
My figures tonight are Speedtest/Profile
Down: 18.17/19.36
Up: 10.99/20.0
Latency: 37.13ms
So I logged the router off the WAN, and powered everything down for 20+ minutes
Power up and the results re pretty much the same
😧 18.21/19.36
U: 11.93/20.0
L: 56.63ms
This seems pretty poor to me, given that the line was stable with an IP profile >60 for ages (and the first few weeks I got 70+). I used to get about 12.5Mbs on ADSL2, so FTTC isn't giving much more than that now Sad
A quiet line test is perfect.
The master socket was replaced by the BT engineer when he replaced my overhead cable across the road last time this was investigated. So I now have one of the new filtered sockets. The BT modem is plugged directly into the master socket, and I have one extension to a DECT phone, all other internal cabling has been disconnected at the master socket.

Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps - Now dropped to 18Mbps!

Very odd 😕 Can't see a large number of disconnections though there are one or two, but I wouldn't expect those to be causing erratic profiles like we're seeing on your line here.
It might be worth raising a fault to see what's going on to be honest, then our faults team can investigate - I don't think there's anything we could do aside from that as it all seems too erratic, I'm not sure an SNR reset would be worth doing at all.

Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps - Now dropped to 18Mbps!

Thanks Matt, I have placed a fault - I do remember a couple of disconnects recently, and also recall that I have seen OR engineers with the cabs open recently as well.

Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps - Now dropped to 18Mbps!

The checks I have just completed on your line are not showing any obvious faults with your service but I can see that your connection speed dropped below the expected level. An engineer visit is now required to progress this fault. Please call us on 0800 432 0200 or reply to the fault question/text message to get this arranged.

Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps - Now dropped to 18Mbps!

The BTOR engineer replaced the last section of old cable outside the house and said the line is passing all the tests as 'GOOD', prior to the replacement it is was 'OK'.
The IP profile is now 77.34/20.0 however the BT speed test is still running at 18.62/14.15 - I guess something at Plusnet needs to catch up with the new IP profile?

Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps - Now dropped to 18Mbps!

It seems that your sync speed has improved following the engineer visit today. I can see that you're in sync at 80 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up.
I've just manually adjusted your speed profile.
Please re-test and let us know how you get on.

Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps - Now dropped to 18Mbps!

Just retested:
BT:- 18.22 / 14.68 / 37ms
TBB:- 17.2 (18.15 burst) / 15.86 (17.12 burst) / 15ms
So it doesn't look like the speed profile change has taken effect? (IP profile is still 80/20)

Make sure your modem has reconnected since Peter changed the profile.

Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps - Now dropped to 18Mbps!

Thanks, logged out/in to the WAN on the router, now...
BT:- 73.77 / 14.44 / 23.5ms
TBB:-
download [TBB]  = 63.45 (burst 72.58)
download [HTTP] = 72.40 (burst 80.95)
upload [TBB] = 15.78 (burst 17.10)
That is looking more like it!  Cool
I'll monitor fairly closely for the next week and see what happens...
Thanks

Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps - Now dropped to 18Mbps! [fixed?...]

And today it looks like the Plusnet profile has reverted back.
My IP Profile is 77.43/20 but my download speed has reverted back to 16.30/14.58 Slower then ever!  Angry

Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps - Now dropped to 18Mbps! [fixed?...]

Hmm, from what I can see both your Plusnet and BT profiles are set correctly at 77000, not sure what might have caused that. I can see a session reset at 5.30pm last night but our RADIUS logs don't show any disconnections since then 😕
Does a BT speed test report the same speed profile?

Hi Matt, yes the BT wholesale speed test is reporting 77/20 as my IP profile.

Re: FFTC speed dropped from 74Mbps to 48Mbps - Now dropped to 18Mbps! [fixed?...]

Notice what has happened to my ping responses since the speed dropped again - lots of dropped packets. A quiet line test is still good.
Speed tests today:
IP Profile:- 77.43 / 20
BTW:- 20.39 / 14.49 / 21.5ms
TBB:- 20.22 / 17.04 / 23ms
Edit: Updated ping graph....
