Exchange Issue/Poor Download throughput

Hi,
Tonight my download throughput has been steadily dropping and is currently only hitting 1.23Mb/s. I normally get over 15Mb/s. A BT test earlier this evening showed 2.23Mb/s but did confirm that my profile is the usual 17000.
As this is similar to previous issues a few months back which took weeks to resolve I am hoping that it is not a repeat.
How can I check the current status of my exchange (Upton Park, London) to see if there is something occurring there?

there is no public reports on 21cn's VLAN capicty like that of 20 cn's VP capicty at the moment, am not to sure if PN can request the info off BTw for a specfic exchange.
from the horses mouth here http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,80166.msg652903.html#msg652903
which gateway are you on http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway if your on thn-ag2 i would surrgest jumping on to pcl-ag04
but to be honest i dont want an extra14mb user on there making midnight latency spike to the levels of thn-ag2 as in the first thread i linked to
any ways try the gateway jump and if you get better speeds it would most likely not be your exchange at fault then

Hi ASBO
Thanks for the reply.
Followed your second link and that showed I am connected to the pcl-ag04 gateway.
If I understand correctly this is the gateway I should be on, so therefore could be my exchange at fault.
Will wait and see what happens in the next 24 hours.

still woth trying the thn-ag2 gateway to see if there is any diffrence in speed as am going on what the situation was a day or 2 ago, it could be the case that pcl-ag04 is being the poor preformer now.
am long way from the exchange and only get 3mb so dont ever see slow downs as am on a slow down for life

How does one switch gateways?
Interestingly, checking my gateway this morning I see that I am now on thn-ag2.
How do gateways get switched? I left my router on overnight, as I normally do, so the switch must be happening without input from me.
With regards to my throughput, speed test is now reporting 8.13Mb/s - an improvement on last night but still not what I have been getting (normally 16.15 Mb/s before 8 am).
My router shows that my downstream rate as 20490 kbps (which is the highest I have ever seen) and my profile is 17000 and has been for a number of weeks now.

Hi Neondaze,
The switch in gateway suggests that your connection dropped overnight.
Regarding the poor throughput, is it the same on THN-AG2 as it was on PCL-AG04 (ie not great)? We're unable to see if the VLANs are running hot unfortunately, but there is a chance that that is the case.

Hi James
Interesting what you said about the switch in gateway as my router stats hadn't changed between the two gateways. I would normally excpect to see a change in something, usually the downstream rate if I had a connection drop. However no change, not conclusive I know.
Just ran two speed tests prior to visiting the forum, first time online since this morning (although router remained on) and have seen speeds of 4.22 and 6.05 Mb/s. I appreciate that there are some users who would love those speeds, but when you are used to 15Mb/s average at all times you can see it is quite a drop. Admittedly not as bad as last night when it went as low as 0.95 Mb/s.
I am hoping this is not going to be a repeat of the last time this happened. I will keep an eye on the situation over the next few days.
