Is this a Plusnet problem?

Re: Emails down??

It's the redirection that is of concern. It's not clear to me whether that represents a problem with smtp2.uk2.net or possibly with  fhw-sunmxcore22.plus.net  Is it possible to provide a definitive answer?

Have you considered using PlusNet to host your domain and simply keeping UK2 as your domain registrar?

Hosting elsewhere provides options in the unlikely event that there are e-mail problems at PlusNet.

Surely you can't be serious that Plusnet might have email delays. Shocked

The fact that it sat with UK2.net for three and a half hours is indicative of a problem at their end. See the headers and/or the last post I made in the thread for timings.

This is one of a number of test e-mails sent. Those sent to other addresses did not have a delay at uk2. That is why I questioned whether this represented a problem at Plusnet.

Re: Emails down??

I like the way that yesterday's e-mail problems have allowed the the duration of the e-mail problems to reduce from a week or two down to 21 hours.
For some reason, I don't seem to be getting any "topic reply notification e-mails", despite asking for them in the "additional options" section below this box. Maybe there's a global setting I need to change as well.

Re: Emails down??

Plusnet's servers could have refused to accept the mail the first time uk2.net tried to forward it on - they then put it in a queue to try later. Without access to their logs there's no way you can tell that.

Is the log line in question.  I'm just checking across the other machines (might take some time) but it would seem, as other people have said, UK2 have taken their time sending it to us.

Re: Emails down??

That line shows when it succeeded in passing the email on to PN, but could you confirm that if the first time uk2.net tried to send to PN it was refused with a 4xx error so they tried again later, one wouldn't expect to see that in the headers?

That's why I said I'd look at the other servers.  There are no other attempts from mx22, but theres no guarantee that they hit that server last time, if they had tried previously.
Anyways, I've gone through the logs for all of them, I don't see anything matching that timestamp at all...
But those are the only ones that mention an address.  If for some reason we rejected saying try again later, it would be done on a host basis not a recipient basis, and we wouldn't be able to match host to recipient (as UK2's mail servers could be sending to anyone).

Re: Emails down??

Thank you for looking into this. It's not always possible to determine exactly what went on by reference to the headers and anecdotal evidence, from other test messages, caused me to wonder what had happened.

@Gricey
Sorry I hadn't twigged what you were looking at. From what you've said the only way of taking further would be if uk2.net could point to something in their logs showing an earlier attempt - not very likely I think.

Re: Emails down??

No problem.  There's always two sides to an internet exchange 🙂
If UK2 can provide some of their logs, we can unravel the full mystery, but as far as I can tell, we're not resposible for the delay.
Cheers,
Gricey.
