Dynamic IP - how is that working?

Rejoined plusnet a couple of weeks ago. I've just noticed that I was given a new IP address, and according to the ThinkBB ping monitor it was just before 4am yesterday. I had assumed that the IP address would only change on a line drop, but line has been up for more than 12 days. Its not a problem, I'm just interested in how it works.
So what triggers a new IP to be handed out?

Re: Dynamic IP - how is that working?

Dynamic IP addresses change with the PPP session.
PPP sessions can be dropped without the loss of synch.  This can happen if there is maintenance being done on PN's gateways.  On request you might be able to get a fixed IP, which is highly desirable when using the ping graphs.

If you're on Unlimited you can pay a one-off £5 fee for a static IP
