Dwindling IP Profile

I notice my IP profile has gradually reduced over the last few months - I believe my line is capable of supporting much higher rates.
Have tried rebooting the modem in an effort to improve the profile but this has resulted in further drops Undecided
The BT system seems to drop the profile quite readily (currently 3.5) but I can't see a way to raise it again!
Rebooting once a day over three days no longer seems to work. How do I restore my line rate to its former glory (6.5)
Any advise appreciated
Thanks & Regards
Mike

Re: Dwindling IP Profile

Hi Mikewalsh,
looks like you have a banded profile applied to the line. Have a look here for some tips on the best way to set up your connection.

Re: Dwindling IP Profile

Hi Jojo,
Thanks for the reply. Is the banding a permanent fixture (does it change once applied).
Got this from the line checker:
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 6Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 4Mbps and 8Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1Mbps and downstream line speed of 4Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 3Mbps and 5Mbps.
Presumably I now sit back and hope that DLM will improve my profile and throughput.

Hi Mike,
To be honest I wouldn't sit back. Tell me how you have your kit set up, how many extensions in your property, what the filter is plugged into?

Re: Dwindling IP Profile

Hi Jojo,
Router is a TG585v7 with firmware 8.2.23.0 plugged into an extension - am  using powerline ethernet to connect a PC and a Freesat box (for BBC Iplayer). The unit plugged into the router is well away from the router itself and shouldn't be interfering. I also use a laptop on wireless. I recently borrowed a different router from work and checked from the main socket with a different filter connecting the laptop directly without the powerline system but the results where the same. Everything works OK but I am keen to achieve a better throughput for  IPlayer (particularly HD).

Re: Dwindling IP Profile

Hi Mike,
The first thing that jumps out at me is the extension. About 90% of speed/intermittent faults are cause by internal wiring, so I would definitely try to rule that out. Even if you plug it into the test socket, with it being banded you won't see any difference but I could try to lift the banding if you were in the test socket.

Re: Dwindling IP Profile

Hi Jo,
Have moved the router to the main socket (which has an I-plate fitted).

Re: Dwindling IP Profile

Hi Mike,
You'll have to leave it there to see how it goes. I'll let you know when I've done it.

Re: Dwindling IP Profile

Hi Mike,
I've now lifted the banding and your sync rate is 7723k but you'll have to wait for the bRAS to lift that. They estimate about 12 hours for that to happen.

Re: Dwindling IP Profile

Hi Jojo
Latest speedtest results:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 5780 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7723 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 443 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 7.82:21.98:70.2 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
Nearly double!  Cheesy
Again many thanks
