Dropped conection

I have been with plusnet for a couple of months now, whilst I have an increased speed, we tend to suffer occasional dropped connection's usually lasting about 5-10 minutes I have a good signal using a TP-Link extender, my router in connected to the master socket. The signal quality from the router is avg 44% with an SNR of 18dB with the TP-Link extender the signal is an avg 78% with an SNR of 40dB.
These figures are from my WiFi Explorer software. When I tried the plusnet troubleshooting all I ended up with was 'error try later'
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Dropped conection

Hi there,
The troubleshooter has raised a ticket, so no worries on that score. Having said that though, as I can only see three drops on your line and those all from Sunday:

I'd suggest it's the wireless that's dropping rather than the connection between the router and the internet. Not sure what's best to suggest in that instance, other than to make sure the wireless from the router and the extender are on different channels so as not to interfere with each other?

Re: Dropped conection

Hi Matt
Thanks I shall do that. I also have powerline adapters to use with my tv, I have disconnected them until I need to use them.
Thanks again
I have tried to change channel on my extender, no luck, can I change on the router so they use separate channels, or will they probably 'bond' to the same channel?

Re: Dropped conection

I'm not sure to be honest, though you can definitely change it on the router - if you have any wifi scanning apps (I use wifi analyzer on android) perhaps look for the least busy channel and switch it to that anyway? That way even if the extender does map to the same channel you'll have less possible interference from neighboring networks.

Re: Dropped conection

Hi Matt
I use WiFi Explorer, now showing ch6. I did attempt to change channels on the router, by switching to manual, but the extender just 'bonded' to the same. Should I have another dropped connection, I will switch of the extender and see what happens.
Thanks for all your assistance.

Dropped connections...again

I am being plagued with dropped connections, it would appear to be at least most day's, sometimes I wait about 15 minutes and I reconnect otherwise I have to reboot the router.
My router is plugged into the master socket I have told that there is no problem to the router, or with the router, but I am at a loss to figure this out.
It does get a bit frustrating, I did try to report this on the Plusnet site but all I got was "Broadband Troubleshooter - Error There's been a problem"
Any ideas?

Topics merged - it helps to keep things in one place
My first comment is that the log you posted doesn't show any connection drops so are you sure that the connection is dropping as opposed to you losing connection to the router

Re: Dropped conection

Thanks a good point, however I am none the wiser as to the difference, or how to remedy the situation

Re: Dropped conection

The first thing is to try with the Powerline adapters and see if that solves the problem
If it does it points to a wireless problem - possibly interference from some other source
The other thing with the router is to go here http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/bb/?be=0&l0=2&l1=-1 and you will see something like this picture which show the time the router has ben connected to the internet and the time it has been connected to the Plusnet servers which should be slightly shorter (note I have hidden my IP address)

OK I have the powerline adaptors I will try them the next time it drops. I wonder could the wifi extender be the villain?
Thanks for the tip

Re: Dropped conection

Well connection dropped again, tried the powerline connector, nothing, had to reboot the router. I find it quite strange, I have been with plusnet since this June and I have been plagued with these connection issues, when I was with o2 the only connection issues were with area line faults. I wonder if it is the router
