VPI 0
VCI 38
it is a netgear DG834PN, i have done several speed test at speedtest.net was getting a lot of connection problems on Thursday/Friday which i belive was known about, has this caused the massive drop in speed ?
Thanks for any help

Re: Drop in speed from 7mb to 0.5 mb

Please post the results of a BT speedtest and the IP profile that plusnet have set for your line (on portal under connection settings -> high speed broadband).

Re: Drop in speed from 7mb to 0.5 mb

0.5? Think yourself lucky, that's double what I'm getting.Had probems for over a week now.PN have just conceded that there is a problem with the BT line. They seem incapable or at best unwilling to help! Recently upgraded from 10 to 60GB.A complete waste of money as there is no way I can use all this as the connection is so slow.

Re: Drop in speed from 7mb to 0.5 mb

Estimated line speed:
   1.0Mb (Accurate to within +/- 1Mbit) - Checked on 2011-08-29 19:33:37
Current line speed:
   0.5 Mb
This is the from plus.net portal, why would it say this speed when i was getting 6/7/8mb last week?
Download speedachieved during the test was - 440 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps
Same from the bt test, how can the speed drop so much from 7mb to 0.5mb?
The exchange is about 1 mile from my house and i had problems about 6 months ago(no internet for about 8/9 days) which where sorted by PN and BT wholesale, which should be on your records

Re: Drop in speed from 7mb to 0.5 mb

For some reason the BT DLM (Dynamic Line Management) has decide your IP profile (and thus your data rate) is now 500Kbs, which is why your speeds are so slow.
Have you been switching off your router frequently or have any noise on the line?
All you can do is wait until the DLM decides your line is OK again and raise the IP profile to match. If this has not happened in the next 3 days (yes it can take that long and sometimes longer) then report a fault to Plusnet.

Re: Drop in speed from 7mb to 0.5 mb

I'm wondering if your sync speed might be the problem. I've tried running a test to assess that but the testing site is down at present. Could you reply with router stats if this is still a concern please?

Re: Drop in speed from 7mb to 0.5 mb

Can I bump this post as I'm getting exactly the same type of issues.  I usually get a download speed of between 5 & 6 Mbps but in the last two days it has dropped to around 0.3. I've tried two routers but that makes no difference.
The Plusnet IP profile shows the following.
Estimated line speed:Not recorded (service activated before we introduced estimates).Current line speed: 0.3 Mb
The BT speedcheck reports the following.
Download speed achieved during the test was - 243 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1200-4000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4928 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4347 Kbps
Router status is showing
Type Interleave
Downstream    Upstream
Data rate 4928  448
Noise margin 14.9  23.0
Output power 19.3  12.4
Attenuation 47.5  26.0

Does this mean anything to anyone?  Does it point to a problem with my line, or is it something that Plusnet can look at?
Look forward to any advice.
Cheers
Mark.
