Hiya,
I've just checked your fault and it was passed back to BT for further investigation this morning.

Re: Downloads speeds problems still!

Hi
Thanks for your reply
I realize my fault has gone back to BT, but it has been there before, with no result,
My line to the exchange has no issues, although at your end you saw many disconnections
on the day the fault occured, but my logs showed none this end, apart from the odd dslam retraining
often at 8 in the morning,
Does that mean the fault is in the exchange before it even gets to yourselves?
and will  BT will look further now,

Re: Downloads speeds problems still!

That's a big difference between sync speed and actual throughput. I'm guessing that you have already checked your BRAS profile as recorded by both the BT speedtester (speedtester.bt.com) and Plusnet (via 'Connection settings, High-speed Broadband'), but just in case you haven't it would be worth doing this, as sometimes they can get out of line with each other.

Re: Downloads speeds problems still!

Here is my BT Profile
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 7080 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  952 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 6000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 366 kbps
Which matches my download speeds,
from Plusnets speedtester
Today 14:23  304 kbps (38kB/s)  814 kbps (102kB/s)

It is getting slower and slower,!!

Re: Downloads speeds problems still!

Hi Asbo
Phone exchange:
    HOVE
Estimated line speed:
    6 Mbps - Checked on 2009-07-09 13:48:57
Current line speed:
    5500
Much longer and Idnet may be an option. They offer 21CN  for
£20 odd quid, the negative is you get 30 meg limit but only 10meg
of that can be used between 8am and midnight , Madness!
I would much rather stay here so I will wait anouther week
before making that decistion

Re: Downloads speeds problems still!

Oooo... What a good question!
I would have hoped that no exchanges were suffering from capacity problems, but knowing BT anything is possible!

Re: Downloads speeds problems still!

Hi
Just to show my connection can behave this test is nearer what I used to get.
Will monitor it today, I have had the odd burst of speed lately but it never lasts
Today 09:30  5072 kbps (634kB/s)  817 kbps (102kB/s)
See what I mean minutes later!
Today 09:38  1644 kbps (206kB/s)  817 kbps (102kB/s)
Maybe Hove exchange has a problem?

Re: Downloads speeds problems still!

Do you switch all your equipment off and when you see the higher speeds it's normally just after you have switched them on? I be inclined to try a different modem. I had a problem in the pass where the modem was syncing normally but the throughput was a small fraction of the sync speed.

Re: Downloads speeds problems still!

We can ask BT to see what the VP (or equivalent) status of an exchange is.
I'll see what I can find out.
