Downloading at a max of 118 KB/s

It has been like this for the past two days.

Re: Downloading at a max of 118 KB/s

Here are screenshots of the speed and router statistics. I am also currently on hold with one of the worst customer service reps I have ever dealt with.

Re: Downloading at a max of 118 KB/s

As I assume that you are on 20CN (ADSL1) your IP profile is 1000kb/s so your speed isn't too far adrift Can you check the Plusnet Current Line Speed which, from memory, should be slightly less than that

Note that the 118kB/s reported in the first post is 944kb/s

Re: Downloading at a max of 118 KB/s

Estimated line speed:1.0Mb (This may vary between 0.75Mb and 2.5Mb) - Checked on 2016-07-23 20:03:09

Current line speed:1 Mb

Although I am seeing nothing in the way of these speeds

Unfortunately not, that 118KB/s was the actual transfer speed I have been getting on direct downloads

Re: Downloading at a max of 118 KB/s

Slight confusion

118kB/s is 118 kilobytes per sec and equates to 944kb/s kilobits per second which is what the line speed is measured in

Re: Downloading at a max of 118 KB/s

Ahh, my apologies. The main thing is that this speed has dropped dramatically and it now takes about 5 hours to download a 1.2gb file, when it used to take around 1 hour.

Re: Downloading at a max of 118 KB/s

1GB in 1 hour is about 278kB/s and you are getting 118kB/s so it should take about 2.4 hours

To achieve that speed (278kB/s) your sync speed must be at least 2848kb/s

That really isn't possible from your present line stats so something must have changed which has caused your noise margin to drop a lot

Can you try the quiet line test - dial 17070 option 2 and the line should be quiet

Re: Downloading at a max of 118 KB/s

Thanks for your reply. I am not at home right now, but I was able to ring quiet line before leaving. There was some background static noise, but it wasn't too loud.
