Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

Yes, you're right - both the PN and BRAS profiles are 6500.

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

I didn't realise there are a fair few other people experiencing decent syncs/BRAs/PN profiles, but seeing poor througput:

To be fair, i'm seeing some pretty good throughput (in the 4000-6000kps area) - but very, very sporadically. I don't expect anything near sync speeds 24/7, but with the bulk of downloads being under 2000kps, i think it's a pretty poor show.... Oh, that and and it's been 50 hours since I raised a problem ticket (#29763277 ) - and still no answer.
I've attached a of screenshot of D/L speed from http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/. (the BT speedtester seems to be knackered for most of today).
Any pointers/suggestions from you guys welcome!
Cheers,
Jon

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

And i've love to be able to back that graph up with some stats from the BT speedtester (which is surely what PN will point me to for fault diagnosis?), but that's been returning "system busy" messages all day.
I note on this link:
http://www.btwholesale-briefingportal.com/brief/view/4c71680687897e7e351321742b7a3c01
..BT refer to a  "published WBC throughput Service Level Agreement (SLA)."  Can we view this SLA anywere?

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

I believe that it's anything above 400Kbps.
Have you tried rebooting recently? Or is it just sporadic fluctuation of speeds?  Either way, a reboot wouldn't hurt.

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

I tried a router reboot yesterday, - generally seemed the same (sporadic fluctuation in throughput). I'm going to log some stats on d/l speeds over the next few days to get some objective data to illustrate. I opened a ticket on Friday about this (#29763277), but no response yet.

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

After logging some throughput stats (about 180 tests!) for a few days, it's clear that i'm seeing a significant drop in throughput only between 15:00 and 22:00 each day. The graph below shows the results of tests on 3 different speed testers, on a BRAS and PN profile of 5500 (the early stats were on a profile of 6500).

As you can see, throughput drops below what i believe is the SLA for 21CN (400kps?) and the line is practically unusable between 18:00 and 20:00.
Given there are plenty of other posts on poor throughput:

...does this now suggest more of a global issue that PN can investigate?

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

I've commented on this already (not having a go!).
We've seen general throughput issues which BT are aware of and there's a bunch of exchange upgrades ongoing which will hopefully improve things.

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

James, - thanks for that, i don't mean to harrass you  ;). The last post i remember from you was explaining that you weren't sure if it was a global issue or not. If throughput's now acknowledged as an issue on 21CN and it's being persued, that's good to know.
Is there a schedule for these exchange upgrades?

The ones I've seen (which are a lot!) are throughout September.

BT's aim on a 21CN connection on throughput speed is that if your sync rate is above 2Mbps (with a BRAS profile of 2000kbps or higher) then the throughput speed should be 2Mbps or higher (note that there will be overheads). If the sync rate is below 2Mbps then the throughput should be around the BRAS profile (again note the overheads).

Now, I'm concerned at the very least about the number of speed isues being seen. Some of course you can discount as being individual problems (wrong profiles for example) rather than related to something more global.
Recently we saw a capacity issue that hit a large number of exchanges, I'm wondering if some of the reports of speed are down to a similar problem where exchanges are hitting capacity. We've flagged this up to BT Wholesale to try and get a report on capacity and what flags they have for upgrading capacity, but in the mean time the best thing to do is raise faults and I'll ensure the faults guys raise them (note: throughput speed problems where the speed is the same all day will probably not be exchange capacity related, I'd expect the capacity related ones to be more noticeable at peak times).

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

So "up to 20Mbps" means "about 2Mbps"?

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

Update on this - I raised a fault, which PN then raised with BT. Throughput has since been great, - consistently in the 4-4.5mb area during peak hours, where it's been below 1mb up until now.
Keith doesn't think BT took any corrective action, although they may have done something like "reset the line card", which has sorted things.
Either way, i'll keep an eye on for a few more days - but for the time being, problem solved.  Smiley

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

To bring you up to speed with my network issue.
Over the last 7 to 10 days my throughput seems to have been pretty stable, generally meeting what I would expect from my profile. Now this change has occurred without any changes to my pc, phone line or router so I guess it must have been a BT issue all along. Other threads seem to imply that this is the case.
So, $64million question. What are Plusnet going to learn from the recent episodes of poor download throughput experienced by a number of trialists? For me the big lesson to learn is that Plusnet should not take at 100% verbatim the results of automated tests. Throughout my fault I was told on numerous occasions that the automated fault testing could not detect anything wrong with my connection and that the fault must lie at my end. Obviously that was not the case. So maybe the automated test systems need to be reviewed.
On a different note. Having just checked my router I have noticed that for some reason my connection has switched from fast to interleaved. Why would this happen and do I need it interleaved? It has been working fine as fast.

Re: Download speeds less than 150kbps

Hi Neondaze
Glad to see yours is sorted, only took 2 months,I also had your problems, and it did not matter what
proof I supplied that my end was fine,it was ignored at Plusnets end!
To the point where I gave up and quit,
I now have the best speed I've seen in years
Today 08:20  6853 kbps    (857kB/s)  379 kbps (47.4kB/s)
This is with the same line same kit etc,
      ADSL Link
  Downstream
  Upstream
  Connection Speed
      8128 kbps
  448 kbps
      Line Attenuation
      38.0 db
      24.0 db
      Noise Margin
      7.8 db
      19.0 db
This is on there Access plan,8meg max
On the 21st I am going over to their ADSL2 network and can't wait,
This is I move I was forced into by lack of support,I had been here for 5 years odd
and remember the good days,Alas no more BT in control you see.
