Download Speed Again

Another download problem I'm afraid. I went on holiday a few days ago and turned off my 2wire modem. On my return my download speeds have dropped to 541 down, 370 up. I've gone through the fault reporting procedure and they can find no fault. I'm stuck now. The only thing I can see that may be a problem is the message "Unable to access the configuration server" In the modem menu.
I'm on up to 8 meg and normally get around 4.5 meg.

Re: Download Speed Again

Hi there,
Just looking at the ticket in question and it does appear that you do have quite good line stats so I can see why my colleague could not find a fault with your line. Have you done any BT speed tests at http://www.speedtester.bt.com at all? If not, do a couple of them and pop the results back on the ticket. We can then see the actual throughput you are getting as at the moment your slow speeds could be down to either the wireless connection (ethernet provides higher download speeds), random test result, internet traffic, contention in peak times etc so it is also worth going through the advice on the ticket.
If you have done those tests and checked everything out, give us a shout and hopefully we can sort it for you. Smiley

Re: Download Speed Again

Apparently my slow download speeds are down to contention. Does this mean there are too many Plusnet users on the excjhange and if  move to another ISP, they may not have as many users and I may get a more acceptable speed. Or is it the total number of users irrespective of the ISP they use. Hope that makes sense,
No LLU or cable in my area.

Re: Download Speed Again

So, all ISPs are the same. No point changing?

Re: Download Speed Again

Thanks for the input. I've checked with samknows and I do have an LLU provider. I'll be sorry to leave PN, but less than 512k is just not good enough. I've confirmed that it is congestion causing my problems, I did a couple of speed test at 0430 this morning and got nearly 5m down, checked again at 1200, 450k.

At least you have options (not attractive ones I'll grant you). When are you due for 21CN WBC?

Re: Download Speed Again

Next year if I'm lucky (RFS date set : 31/03/2010) but it won't make much difference as my maximum stable speed is about 3800kbps
