Dodgy Router?

I seem to have overcome my previous problem of connectivity by simply replacing microfilters. And speed seems to have increased a bit too. However, I  have intermittent problems using wifi with my netbook and smartphone - even in the same room as the router. Although the ADSL light remains steady on the router, the wired and wireless lights flash at times. Does this indicate a problem with the router? It's a Belkin F5D7634-4 G Wireless Modem Router.

Re: Dodgy Router?

Have you tried changing the wireless channel? that can often help with this kind of issue. I wouldn't take the status of the lights as an indication of a problem though.

hey, don't think like that, the staff and mods here are happy to help people with what ever level of knowledge they might have. Smiley
You can do this by logging into the settings page for your router (refer to it's manual for that: http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/article/?lid=enu&pid=f5d7634uk4a&aid=14448&scid..)
set up pages on a router are usually broken down into sections so look for wireless settings and you should have an option in there.

Re: Dodgy Router?

Think I spoke too soon when I said new filters had resolved my connectivity problem, as it's still with me!  When PlusNet Assist kicks in it seems to have a fixation about the DSL light on my router, giving me a choice of DSL light flashing or DSL light off, yet this light is ALWAYS on and steady. Gnash gnash! I now sometimes find that even though the Internet light is on, I've been disconnected. I find this out often through my netbook or mobile phone as even though I have excellent wifi signal these devices show I'm disconnected. Am I right in thinking that if I set the channel option to Auto the router should automatically find the "best" channel?

Re: Dodgy Router?

Hi Wardio,
It looks like your router is losing connection with the exchange from checking our connection logs:

I'd recommend running through the troubleshooter at http://faults.plus.net as that'll take you through testing with the router in the master socket etc. If the line still drops after those tests then you've confirmed it's a fault with the line itself, and we'll get it escalated and investigated for you.

Re: Dodgy Router?

Thanks Matt. I was without internet for over 24 hours so could not respond!  We seem to have two telephone line sockets in our house but neither has the test socket. With my Belkin router plugged into each I was not getting an internet light and was unable to connect. Just bought a Netgear N300 and I'm back online again!  I can't believe the difference in speed too. Also, using my mobile with wifi used to be a very frustrating situation, with it taking about 10 minutes to access a website. Now it's almost instantaneous!  So I think I was perhaps right when I used the term "Dodgy Router?" - unless of course PlusNet have done something about the service I'm getting!

No, I'd agree it's safe to assume that it was your router. Glad to hear you got that sorted.
