Disconnections and high pings

Hi from a complete newbie.
I have recently upgraded to the 8mb service and am suffering frequent disconnections and high pings in counterstrike, also seems like webpages take a tad slower to appear.
When i connect, the little icon monitor thingy in the bottom corner says i am connecting at 5mb, this often changes and i have seen it as high as 7mb.
However i have just done a speed check and i get the following
Today 20:01 950 kbps (118.8 KB/s) 378 kbps (47.3 KB/s)
I submitted a Broadband Fault Checker and got the following response:
The results of our tests show no fault with your broadband connection. Completed speed tests show that your connection speed is: none found
According to BT, this speed is within the limits of acceptable performance for broadband service.
Kind Regards,
Customer Support
Anybody know whats going on and how do i fix it.
Remember im new so no technobable please
Cheers
Jim

Re: Disconnections and high pings

The login it is looking for is your PlusNet login, which you will use for your modem/router. For example, it may look something like username@plusdsl.net.

Re: Disconnections and high pings

I've had a look into this and there's nothing obvious that I can see that would be causing your slowdowns.
Have you tried rebooting your equipment (router) and tweaking your rWin and MTU as per this page?

Re: Disconnections and high pings

This is from the bt speedchecker
IP profile for your line is - 4000 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  5152 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 912 kbps
dont know what it means ?Huh

It means it's slower than expected and you should read my other post Smiley

FFS..I DID READ YOUR POST and followed the instructions and guess what...it did not make any difference. Any other smart [Censored] comments you would like to make.   Huh
My account is a "PlusNet Broadband Premier Option 1" and i recently upgraded to the 8mb service, thats when things went pair shaped.
Does the results from the speed check mean i am connecting at about 1mb. Because that is what it was before the 'upgrade' ?
Any other advise welcome.
Thanks
Jim

Jim,
Calm down.  You didn't mention any of what you had done relating to my post and it was meant in good humour.  Yes, the BT Speedtest you have run shows you as bering profiled at 4Mbps and only seeing 1Mbps throughput, which isn't what should be expected.

Re: Disconnections and high pings

Actually, hang on. I've found and changed something at this end.
Can you try rebooting again and see if you notice an improvement?

Re: Disconnections and high pings

That has helped a lot thanks.
Speed test 3802 kbps (475.3 KB/s) 380 kbps (47.5 KB/s)
A big improvement

Have always been puzzled: is speed the "up to 8000" or that given by the BT(IP0 profile. Given that the IP Profile can be very much a moveable feast, ( mine has ranged from 2000 to 4000 recently), can one guarantee that the tweaks will improve things, if the profile figure is the one for inputting? Huh
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: Disconnections and high pings

The rWin will depend on your Mbps sync speed.  Yes this can fluctuate, but generally doesn't massively on most lines.
