Kitz suggests a sync of 1952kbps with that attenuation as a guide.

It's quite plausible if your ADSL24 connection was LLU/ADSL2+ - was it?

Yes that's what the router is showing but my actual download speed is much lower, just completed a test at 224 kbps.
HP, Yes it was LLU

All due respect to PlusNet but I'd be looking to go back to LLU ASAP; it's not their fault, but the way BT's sytems work.
There are times when the BT DLM system just works against you on long lines like yours and LLU is much more appropriate.
What LLU services are available on your exchange?
Put your phone number and postcode in here: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php
Post the results back here without your phone number for advice.
Or if you prefer to do that away from PN, join the Kitz forums and do it there.

Re: Disadvantage of leaving router on 24/7

I recall it a cable and wireless LLU, Oh well i'll have to suffer the slow speeds as i can't grumble about the price and I can still play eve.
Although surfing is a different matter, having to wait for pages to load is annoying its like being on dial up again.

Dont switch of by pullind the plug out ,  use the button on the router, this sends a good signal to BT

The power circuitry in the modem doesn't care how the power is cut when deciding to send a dying gasp indication to the DSLAM - when it detects an electrical outage (from mains outage, power button, whatever) it uses a small amount of charge stored in a capacitor to keep the link up long enough to send a dying gasp signal.
However from comments from those who know a lot more about this on other forums it appears BT hasn't enabled dying gasp functionality on it's DSLAMs, instead relying on it's 10 outages in 1 hour policy to determine whether the BRAS profile should be recalculated. Obviously LLU operators with their own DSLAMs may have dying gasp turned on - which may go some way to explain why LLU customers don't have the same issues that BT ones do Sad

I'm sure I read somewhere that many routers are limited to a max figure of 63/63.5 so the actual true reading could be much higher.

Re: Disadvantage of leaving router on 24/7

I turn my router off every night at the mains. Mainly because I like to save power and the cat will sit on it all night if I don't.  Shocked
Not noticed any drop in sync speeds.

Hi diddydo75,
I've just been trying to run some tests on your line but your router seems to be out of sync at the moment. Let me know when you're connected again and I can do some digging for you.
