Re: Difference between Download Speed and IP Profile

As a one-off test it is fine.  If you got the same result day-in day-out that would be a little concerning.

Re: Difference between Download Speed and IP Profile

Do you always run the test at busy times of day?  The time you posted the question is a time when Plusnet expect that their network is being quite heavily used.

Re: Difference between Download Speed and IP Profile

Download speed of 24.07 would be pretty decent for a profile of 25.91 but why has the profile dropped to that.
Have you been discconecting/reconnecting the modem/router or been has it been dropping on its own ?

Haven't disconnected anything or switched anything off, no power cuts, etc.
Havent noticed not been able to access the Internet - is there any way of telling if there have been any disconnections ?

Re: Difference between Download Speed and IP Profile

You could log into the router and check the entries in the event log
If using the 582n log in and click on technical gateway and event log is there

Re: Difference between Download Speed and IP Profile

Hi mikez,
Your sync speed has been changing as you've been having a few disconnection, I've posted a graph of your connection:

Are any of these disconnections caused by you?

Re: Difference between Download Speed and IP Profile

Mikey, you have to look at your Plusnet profile as well as the one reported by BT.  This is the 'Current Line Speed'  shown here https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

Re: Difference between Download Speed and IP Profile

The Plusnet profile, reported as Current Line Speed, should be the same as your BT IP Profile (rounded down to one decimal place) but frequently lags behind it by several days.  As this is a throttle applied by Plusnet, it can restrict your speed unnecessarily under certain circumstances but Plusnet will adjust it up to match the BT IP Profile on request.  If your BT IP Profile is still 25.91 then your Plusnet profile should be 25.9 so at 25.6 it's slightly low at present.
