Daily speed tests not initiated by me.

I have just used the speed tester at "mybroadbandspeed.co.uk" and find that there are results for speed tests every day ( around mid-day)  that have not been initiated by me.
At most of the times that the test have taken place my PC was switched off and WiFi  disabled on the router.
The router is always on.
Any suggestions as to what is running these tests?

Are you on a fixed IP?

Re: Daily speed tests not initiated by me.

That could explain it, it's possible you've picked up a new IP and the previous assignee may have conducted daily speed tests.

Re: Daily speed tests not initiated by me.

Assuming that you are using a TG582 router supplied by Plusnet the uptime reported here (router password required) will tell you how long you've had your current IP address. Are all of the tests before then? If they are you have nothing to worry about.

I don't think so.
If my dynamic IP changes, my results history is still there.

Re: Daily speed tests not initiated by me.

I thought the speed tests results were stored on the PC as I don't see the same results if a different PC is used.

Re: Daily speed tests not initiated by me.

I have at the back of my mind that it's not just as simple as either just cookies or just IP address. If robski1 finds they are all before he last connected and obtained a new IP address there's nothing to worry about. If any of them are since then there's more digging required!

I can't even get it to save my results, suspect it's not working as it should be.  Undecided

Re: Daily speed tests not initiated by me.

It has been broken for quite some time and I didn't think it had been fixed even though the warning notice had been removed.

Re: Daily speed tests not initiated by me.

Hi All,
It is still happening. Here is a screen shot of the recent results.
The two peaks were the tests initiated by me. The others seem to happen around the same time each day at a much slower download speed.
My router is a BT Voyager 2110.

Re: Daily speed tests not initiated by me.

are your devices itself, turned off when the tests are happening? if so, I'd say it's probably just a screw up on the website (conflicting IP's or someone is running tests and their IP is being reported as yours by mistake) I am unsure precisely but if you're 100% sure your network is secure, and that you don't have any software installed doing the tests automatically then I'd say that's the most likely thing.
