DSL sync problems and very slow speeds when working.

Hi, the last couple of days my internet has been having problems. It was fine when I went to bed. I woke up to find download speeds of around 0.20Mbps. Since then the internet keeps randomly stopping completely, and doing a connection test mentions a DSL sync problem whenever it stops working (I tried turning off the router for a few mins, but that always results in me having to wait like an hour for the sync problem to go away so I can finally reconnect), while near the top of the page it said something along the lines of no DSL connection. (can't check the exact wording because my internet is "working" at the moment.
Yesterday I had no internet all day until around 10pm when it decided to work for around an hour before dieing again. Today it's worked a few times, but not for long. Sad
There was some pretty bad weather before my internet started playing up. So just wondering what the problem could be and if it'll sort it's self out over time.
These are the stats my router is showing at the moment:

DSL Connection
Link Information

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 598 / 42,965
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 516 / 4,211
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 537 / 5,696
Doing a speed test on my ipad (my speeds are usually the same while using my pc using ethernet cable) I'm getting a download speed of 0.21Mbps and upload of 0.03Mbps.
Last time I did a test on my ipad while my internet was going normal speeds, I got 1.92Mbps download.
If you need any more info I'll try and reply. (if my internet is working, so I can. Lol).

Re: DSL sync problems and very slow speeds when working.

Hi MadDragon,
It looks like your recent drops in connection have caused your line to have slower speeds, this is managed by Dynamic Line Management (DLM) at your exchange.
Your recent connection graph:

There's something causing this to drop, I'd suggest running through the checks at http://faults.plus.net and if this doesn't solve it we can take over from there.

Re: DSL sync problems and very slow speeds when working.

Looks like it's probably the phone line thats messed up.  Sad
I don't use the home phone, the phoneline is just used for my internet. Anyway, I started working my way through the questions on that link you posted, and got to the question asking if the line is noisey and if theres a dial tone. I plugged in a phone and all I hear when I listen is a hissing sound, no dial tone.  Sad
I guess the bad weather is the cause. If theres a thunder storm my internet always dies, and while there wasnt any thunder, it was really windy and loads of rain the day it started messing up.

It will be the cause of this, once you've got the phone line and if you still have any speed issues let me know.

Re: DSL sync problems and very slow speeds when working.

I tried plugging the phone into the test socket and couldn't really hear anything. Maybe a faint hissing and a really quiet dial tone. I searched for "bt fault" and that came up with a thing to check the line. The results sais "the problem is likely to be in your property and could be equipment related".
What should I do now? Try the router in the test socket and see if that makes any difference? I have an old thomson v7 router which I'm not sure works properly, but I could try that I guess. I don't want to keep messing about unplugging things and make my speeds even worse though (if thats even possible with my speeds at the moment, lol).
If the bt site is saying it's probably something my end, I don't want to get someone out and then be charged.  Sad
*update*
Just did a bt speed test on my pc connected to my router via ethernet cable and these are the results:
0.06Mbps download
0.00Mbps upload
41.25 latency
With speeds like that I guess it doesn't matter about unplugging stuff...

Re: DSL sync problems and very slow speeds when working.

You could try leaving it how it is and see if it is stable with the broadband in on its own, but if there is interference from your phone line then it will probably drop your connection.
Have you tried more than one handset to confirm it's not the phone?

Re: DSL sync problems and very slow speeds when working.

I only have the 1 phone to test. I don't use the phone, so it's not even plugged in unless theres an emergency.
I'v plugged in my old thomson v7 into the test socket and getting the same speeds (around 0.22Mbps). But at least unlike my v8, this one can actually keep a wifi connection for more than 5 minutes. (which is great because I spend most my time on my ipad).
I haven't had the dsl error since plugging in the other router (don't think thats the router's doing though, lol), so hopefully that'll be the last of it and I can slowly get my speed back up.  Undecided
Ps I saw on the bt site that I might get bt infinity in my area around the 31st of march. Does that mean There will be a plusnet equivalent in my area too, or is that a bt-only thing? My phone line has been nothing but a nightmare, if I can get internet by another means that'd be great!

Re: DSL sync problems and very slow speeds when working.

Hi there,
It depends what it's syncing at really and if it holds the connection longer at a higher speed than the v8 - any chance you could paste the stats in here please?
Re fibre, I believe the 31st March is a holding date, my exchange (sharrow) is showing the same unfortunately. However, yes - as soon as Infinity is available for you you can also get fibre from us Smiley Hope it is enabled soon!

Re: DSL sync problems and very slow speeds when working.

It's syncing at a higher speed than earlier so I've matched your profile on our side, you'll see an increase in the next 15 minutes or so.
Now to see if your line will remain stable.
