DSL regularly dropping

This last week or so, every couple of days our connection just randomly drops. The DSL light suddenly starts to flash, connection goes down and it won't reconnect for ages. It's currently down right now and has been for the last 30 minutes. I don't mind the occasional blip but this is getting frustratingly common.

Re: DSL regularly dropping

I've had the same problem over the last month When I iniitially put in a ticket after days of repeated connection drops, I noticed the problem myself. My connection was running quite a bit faster than the 6mb it used to be, but SNR Margin had been squeezed down to around 3 dB. I asked for it to be raised to 6dB or above. Plusnet support did I asked and connection was back to good for about 10 days with an SNR of 6.5dB.
This past week, however, there have been times when the connection drops are back again with an SNR margin of 6.5 dB. There have been repeated drops today. One, in fact, as I write this post. Reconnection usually follows automatically within a minute or two, but it is a serious pain at times when I need an uninterrupted connection. Since I'm more concerned to have stability than the last drop of speed, I'm thinking of asking to raise SNR Margin to 8-10 dB to try to absorb any dodgy connection blips.

Re: DSL regularly dropping

@MykeUK - Can you please raise a fault at http://faults.plus.net from what I can see, there's likely a fault with the service that we'd like to get sorted for you.
@netspeed - I've just taken a look at your connection:

Your line quality doesn't show anything that would be obvious to cause an issue. We can raise the SNRt or we can apply Interleaving. I would advise Interleaving as the first step if stability is what you're after.

@Chris
Thanks for looking so quickly at the problem. As you can  see, all fine for 11 days, then back to periods of repeated connection drops.
Yes, please switch interleaving back on for my connection as a first step to see if corrects the problem. I wasn't aware it had been switched off, and I really value that stability much more than a few hundred mb of extra speed.

Re: DSL regularly dropping

No problem. I've placed an order for Interleaving to be applied, this should take effect as of tomorrow morning.

Re: DSL regularly dropping

Thanks, Chris. Hope does the trick, cos I'm back in a phase of a crazy number of disconnections/reconnections today.

Re: DSL regularly dropping

@ Chris
Was interleaving switched on for my line this morning? Cos connection just dropped again here.
The connection was up for quite a while this morning and I thought problem was sorted, cos yesterday I was getting disconnects/reconnects every 5 or 10 minutes. Was dozens of drops. I swapped router and microfilters annd was the same, so eliminated that.

Re: DSL regularly dropping

Yep, it looks as though your line started to drop out, so DLM applied Interleaving. It's not entirely clear whether it was the router or Interleaving which cleared that up.

It'd be worthwhile keeping an eye on your connection over the next few days and see if things remain stable before looking at taking Interleaving back off again.

Re: DSL regularly dropping

Thanks, Chris. Fingers crossed, running ok now.
It was interleaving on that cleared it up. With both routers, I was getting the connection drops. I just tried the second router to eliminate router problem as the source. I'll be leaving interleaving on. Evidently my line needs some error correction in place to prevent connection drops.
