I have reported a fault to plus net to which they sent me a email telling me how to go into the router settings which I have done and changed the internet username and password
I now get an error message saying the DSL connection is down
The wiring is all correct from the socket to the router - could this be a fault with the router - or is there anything else I can try

Assuming the configuration of the router has no value to you (no special settings), it is a Plusnet "issue" router and you obtained it directly from Plusnet, resetting it and letting it pick up the configuration might fix everything.
I am the satisfied customer....
