DSL Routers

Hi
the question is should I turn off my router at night or when not in use  or should I leave it on 24/7.
The machine in question is a Netgear 2200 v3

Re: DSL Routers

Whichever you prefer. Just don't turn it on and off several times a day. (Though within reason even that shouldn't be an issue).

Re: DSL Routers

It depends on how you turn it off.  The best way is to log on to your router, disconnect the PPP session (Router status - Connection Status - Disconnect) then switch it off.  You may also find that you need to wait until daylight to reconnect at the fastest speed when you turn it on again.

Re: DSL Routers

Is there a particular reason you'd want to turn it off at night?
I've tested a few different routers, and they all drew about 10W from the mains, so that's only around £10·50 per annum if left on.
I'm inclined to think that the electronics would probably last longer, too.

Yes, most electronic devices come under more strain from being powered on and off than being left on.
