DNS problems with Microsoft DirectAccess?

I have a PlusNet broadband account.  I have a number of devices connected to this service e.g. laptops, phones, tablets.  One laptop uses Microsoft DirectAccess.  I connect to PlusNet using WiFi at home.  DirectAccess connects successfully but for some reason this prevents me from opening public websites such as Bing or Google.  Internal corporate websites open just fine so there seems to be some sort of DNS issue.
However.. I disconnected DirectAccess and my laptop still shows as connected to WiFi but websites fail to open. The router homepage shows as 'Connected' so all looks good but still I am unable to navigate to Bing or Google.  All other devices in the house don't have any broadband connectivity issues (websites can be successfully opened).
I can repro this with another laptop which uses DirectAccess.
Oddly, whenever I reboot the router and after waiting for successful sync, I can then open websites for a short period of time before I lose internet connectivity again.  Perhaps after DirectAccess has successfully Connected.  Not sure.
I have to resort to using other devices in the house for internet access which are a) not domain joined and b) do not have DirectAccess.
I am quite perplexed by this issue since it seems isolated to my work laptop (with DirectAccess).
Has anyone experienced any of these issues?  Any help appreciated to try and determine root cause and resolve this.
Thanks.

Re: DNS problems with Microsoft DirectAccess?

Try using the plusnet dns servers on the machine your having trouble with manually instead of using the router forwarder, here is a pointer for windows 7 http://pcsupport.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=pcsupport&cdn=compute&tm=17&f=00&su=p284.13.34...; there are more tutorials on the website as well for xp,win7/8 etc here http://pcsupport.about.com/od/browsers/f/change-dns-server.htm
see how that goes.
