Re: DNS preggers again

Same here - been happening since lunchtime, but I've only been on since then.
Have swapped gateways from thn-ag1 to thn-ag3 with no improvement.
So I tried a tracert to community .plus.net
When it is bad I get something like:

2    44 ms    44 ms    46 ms  lo0-plusnet.thn-ag3.plus.net [195.166.128.80]
3    *        *        *    Request timed out.
4    *        *        *    Request timed out.
5    *        *        *    Request timed out.
6    *        *        *    Request timed out.
7    *        *        *    Request timed out.
8    *        *        *    Request timed out.
9  135 ms    79 ms    50 ms  community.plus.net [212.159.9.110]

When it is good I get:

2    45 ms    45 ms    44 ms  lo0-plusnet.thn-ag3.plus.net [195.166.128.80]
3    43 ms    44 ms    46 ms  vl303.thn-gw1.plus.net [84.92.3.177]
4  125 ms    57 ms    57 ms  te2-3.thn-gw2.plus.net [212.159.1.58]
5    49 ms    45 ms    46 ms  vl23.pte-gw2.plus.net [212.159.4.28]
6    50 ms    51 ms    52 ms  92.core.plus.net [212.159.1.92]
7    52 ms    52 ms    50 ms  fhw-lb04.plus.net [212.159.1.146]
8    52 ms    52 ms    51 ms  community.plus.net [212.159.9.110]

Then bad again:

2    45 ms    45 ms    44 ms  lo0-plusnet.thn-ag3.plus.net [195.166.128.80]
3    *        *        *    Request timed out.
4    *        *        *    Request timed out.
5    *        *        *    Request timed out.
6    *        *        *    Request timed out.
7    *        *        *    Request timed out.
8    *        *        *    Request timed out.
9    *        *        *    Request timed out.
10    *        *        *    Request timed out.
11    *        *        *    Request timed out.
12    *        *        *    Request timed out.
13    *        *    2323 ms  community.plus.net [212.159.9.110]

And back it comes good:

2    45 ms    46 ms    54 ms  lo0-plusnet.thn-ag3.plus.net [195.166.128.80]
3    44 ms    43 ms    45 ms  vl303.thn-gw1.plus.net [84.92.3.177]
4  153 ms  199 ms  203 ms  te2-3.thn-gw2.plus.net [212.159.1.58]
5    45 ms    44 ms    43 ms  vl23.pte-gw2.plus.net [212.159.4.28]
6    50 ms    51 ms    50 ms  92.core.plus.net [212.159.1.92]
7    62 ms  119 ms    74 ms  fhw-lb04.plus.net [212.159.1.146]
8    51 ms    50 ms    68 ms  community.plus.net [212.159.9.110]

Re: DNS preggers again

I had a few DNS problems, I think, at about 0800 to 0930 this morning, but were not frequent enough for me to be too bothered at the time.

Re: DNS preggers again

I have switched back to Open DNS and it gave no improvement, so I switched back. Also my connection to Skype is now regularly dropping out as does my connection to the usertools server. Both reconnect after a few seconds.
I am on thn-ag1

Quote from: Chris
Shouldn't have been ongoing for 3 hours if I'm honest, there was a network blip on the DNS caches at around 3.15 so anything before that is likely to be unrelated.

DNS was very flakey this morning before 9am, and was also flakey around mid day I found as well.

Re: DNS preggers again

I had problems today too.  Sad
This morning 11.00 and same when tried mid afternoon No web connections made,  but the tbb meter showing a lot of red (ie upload trys?)
I've been on Juniper 2 recently. As have been gaining info from this useful Forum I tried rebooting the router at 5.00 or so and got back on, at gateway Juniper 3.
Seems ok now.  Smiley

Re: DNS preggers again

Don't know about anyone else, but I'm still having intermittent DNS failures & also intermittent failures trying to send emails - SMTP server refusing connections, apparently. Don't know if they are related.

Re: DNS preggers again

Hi guys,
Heads up that we've got our networks guys all over this at the moment. We definitely acknowledge that there's a problem but it's proving a PITA to pinpoint the precise cause. Keep the examples coming as they'll help with our diagnosis.

Re: DNS preggers again

Severe DNS problems occurred about 14:50 today while connected to pte-ag1. Lost website and POP3 access without any warning.
Changed to OpenDNS and rebooted router - everything is working again (connected to thn-ag3 now).

Re: DNS preggers again

I'm on pte-ag1 just now and still having big problems. Sites such as BBC News, Youtube, Thinkbroadband are either slow or timing out, sometimes refreshing will bring the page up. Traceroute to the bbc is below;
Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  192.168.1.1
  2    41 ms    55 ms    52 ms  lo0-plusnet.pte-ag1.plus.net [195.166.128.64]
  3    *        *      59 ms  ge0-0-0-403.pte-gw2.plus.net [84.92.4.2]
  4    41 ms    40 ms    39 ms  vl23.thn-gw2.plus.net [212.159.4.20]
  5    45 ms    40 ms    39 ms  rt0.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.239.25]
  6    40 ms    40 ms    41 ms  212.58.238.133
  7    39 ms    40 ms    39 ms  virtual-vip.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138]
Commonly seeing the plus.net stuff in the middle of the trace timing out...

Hi,
I'm still on pte-ag1 and it was on the slow side loading pages this morning, but is very good at the moment.

Re: DNS preggers again

I second that - not as bad today but still some odd stuff going on.
