Re: DNS is sluggish - again...

Seems there may have been a slight increase in latency last night, I'll flag this up to see what the cause was/is.

If you want performance use a dns server that is aimed for performance:
https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm
This tests thousands of dns servers for speed and reliability. And gives you your own personalised results.

Unfortunately that's some Windows thing and hence useless.

I'm still chasing this up, when I've got an update I'll pop back on here.

@foxy - I've used GRC DNS benchmark many times on Linux using 'WinE'.
Just download, set to executable, and run (with WinE) - no problem.

I don't have WinE loaded as it's a rather huge - even before I try to run a typical mammoth Windows program.
If I absolutely need to run Windows, I can use a dual boot netbook with a minimal Windows partition on it.
I use Dropbox to sync files between the Desktop and Windows.
Obviously, Dropbox is treated as a totally insecure transport method!

Re: DNS is sluggish - again...

Looking at the samknows data we can see an increase in latency and failed DNS lookups in the evening on DNS;

It does appear to be on telehouse gateways, so PTW, PTE, PTN & PTW unfortunately we can't split the samknows data this way, so the data averages out the whole network.
We've raised a problem(Ref:77297) and our networks team will look into this.

Have you tried turning the DNS servers off and on again, and upgrading to the latest version of the software?    Wink    Smiley

We've actually rolled some updates yesterday on the servers and are currently monitoring.
